Would your system be effective in locating break?** A: You need Greenlee 501 Tracker II Cable Locator @ $650 it will trace underground wires. **Q: What battery is used for these units? and how long do they last?** A: Two 9 volt batteries one in each piece. They will last quite a while but using the lights would exhaust the battery more quickly. I started using mine a year ago and still have the same batteries but I doubt I used it more than 2 hours total on time and I didn't need the lights. **Q: How many meters trace this device in electrical cable ?** A: I have used this to set a signal on a cable (3 x 2,5 square millimeters copper) over a distance of 140 meters, and the signal is still strong enough to be heard through a wall. I could confirm the signal being present (meaning the cable was unbroken) by holding the probe on the outside of a house close to where the fuse box is located inside the house.
