Does the pillow keep that toxic odor over time?** A: It does smell like foam upon opening... BUT if you take the clear plastic cover off, then zip the fabric cover off, then put the clear plastic cover back directly over the foam base then zip the fabric cover over the top of the plastic you 1. Don't smell the foam & 2. Keep leaky milk from seeping into the foam, making it smell worse. Just unzip the fabric cover off for regular washing & leave the clear plastic cover on for the products lifetime. Tada! No stinky pillow! **Q: Is the cover on this removeable?** A: Yes! I just hang it up to dry after washing it. I was advised that this one is better for newborns so they don't slide down and is more secure. (I did end up getting one of each).If you can only choose one- I'd definitely get the my brestfriend. For a couple of weeks my newborn would only nurse if I walked around, I was recovering from a c-section so this pillow helped there because it once strapped tightly it could help bear a little weight so it wasn't all on me (I did make sure to still hold my baby myself so I wouldn't trust that it could bear all weight). I don't know if the raised spots on this one is standard but on either end there is a raised circle like where the baby's head would rest and when I was having to multi-task like eating while nursing, those spots seemed to help support my baby's head in a way to make it more level while nursing so I didn't have to use my hand.The pocket on the side was nice for his pacifier, nipple cream, and other misc items I may need on a whim while nursing. Many people said they didn't understand the pocket's purpose, but that's what I used it for and found it was handy.My baby is now 2 months old and I still use this nightly during the nighttime feeds. It helps me feel more secure when nursing while groggy. As you can see in the photo- my husband also found it helpful when he wanted to game while giving me a break. Haha Very easy to use! Cover is easy to remove and wash! I'm really lazy and literally don't hang dry anything like everyone advises- it did not shrink in the dryer- the clip did make a bit of a ruckus.Get a waterproof cover to go on the pillow directly as it is not waterproof. My son had lots of struggles latching at first and positioning was challenging. I had a Boppy given to me by a friend who swore by it, but I just couldn't get the Boppy to stay around me, nor was it big enough to bring my baby up high enough. I felt like I was hunching over constantly and fighting with the pillow to stay put. The My Brest Friend solves these problems completely!I have found that I can get my baby to latch best when I strap the MBF around my ribs, just below my breasts. I was worried that as my baby got heavier, I would need to add a pillow underneath for support but so far that hasn't been an issue (my baby is 4 months).When the pillow arrived, I was a little disappointed in the fabric quality--it seemed a bit rough to lay my tender babe on, but he appears perfectly comfortable! I suppose if you're worried about this, though, the deluxe pillow is what you should go for. Also, the deluxe pillow touts a "silent release" buckle, but the buckle on this version can easily be done quietly not to wake the baby as long as you just do it slowly.One drawback of the pillow is that it pretty much only allows for cradle or cross-cradle positions. I haven't figured out a way to do football hold with this pillow. I usually use cross-cradle, but a few times I have wanted to do football to drain different areas of the breast that still felt full, more control of the latch when he's struggling, etc. so if anyone has any tips on how to use this pillow for football that would be great.One thing that people might not like about the use of this pillow is not a problem with the pillow, just something to keep in mind... it really is impossible to put the pillow on while you're holding your baby. You have to use both hands to strap it around you. Sometimes I pick up Sam when he's hungry and he immediately starts rooting, but then I have to put him down again to put the pillow on and it upsets him! I try to anticipate needing to feed him and put the pillow on before getting him but sometimes that doesn't happen!Washing the cover was pretty easy. I washed it in my washing machine on the gentle cycle with the zipper zipped up and the clasp together so they wouldn't get caught on anything. Then, I let it air dry so it wouldn't shrink. It took about 3 hours to dry completely but it was worth it because the cover was pretty easy to put back on again--I read some blog post where a lady complained that it was so hard to put back on that she considered just buying a whole new pillow but I didn't have any problems like that.All in all, I love this pillow and I definitely recommend it.
