The battery lasts 6 weeks
It shaves quite closely and fairly quickly and it's quiet. I held off writing a review until I found out how long it goes between charges. Well, it was delivered August 29 and the red light started blinking October 12. That's over six weeks. I think that's pretty good.I used my old '90s vintage $40 weed whacker continuously from summer of '07 thru the aforesaid August of '16 on the original heads. (I had no idea I was supposed to change the heads.) I flinched at the $109 price of this one (That did include a replacement shaving head.) but if it lasts anywhere near as long as my old Norelco, I'll be satisfied.November, 2017 UpdateI'm still using the original shaving head. It still leaves my face pretty smooth. I'm not sure but it may take a few more passes. Battery lasts more like two months now. It handles a three day beard with no pulling and no problems.

I Never Knew ...
... how good it could be. My dad always had a Norelco rotary head. I've had a couple Braun regular head shavers and they always end up in the bottom drawer and then go away. I HATE shaving and I can't grow a decent beard. ( why Lord, WHY? ) So I bought one of these on a whim. WOW. Does the trick. I can sit here at my computer perusing whatever while running over my face with this amazingly quiet shaver and in two minutes I am well shaved. Yeah you have to to this way and that and around and around and up and down but it's a breeze compared to the water, the soap and the blade. Yeah, it's not blade close. But it's close enough and tomorrow ( or the next day or the next ) you can do it again. The trimmer is good. Takes care of those nasty nose hairs and ear fluff. Buy one. You'll like it.One caveat: Your girl will still want you triple bladed shaved if you like to rub that chin against her silky skin.

Great shaver for the money
Worked great right out of box. Only had it a week but feels easy to work with and it gives a close shave. It is quite and appears to be built well and should last a long time. It came with an extra set of shave heads which will come in handy after a year of use. The battery charge system is bit unusual in that it can be used when charging. I guess it is because it can be used in the shower which would then make it unsafe. I am looking forward to many years of use.

Excellent for electric shaves but trimmer is not that good
Excellent for electric shaves but trimmer is not that good. My old Norelco ran at higher RPMs but getting brand name blades was becoming impossible and it had the old NiCad batteries which were never that great. This one gives a great shave however the trimmer is at best a stopgap unlike my old one which worked better. It came with a extra set of blades.

You just can't get a better electric shave than Norelco
Genuine Norelco product, made in the Netherlands (some of theirs are now, apparently, made in China - sad) and with an extra set of blades that by themselves are almost $30. I'm replacing the exact same shave that got me through five years of use with two weeks of heavy shaves on a charge (very heavy beard and I like to shave close since it grows back in by 5:00). Easy to clean, simple to operate, long lasting charge and the best shave in the business - what else could you want. FWIW, I tried one of the cheap Chinese made clones - not even close to the same thing - they did a horrible job of counterfeiting rotary shavers.

Cuts most hairs, most of the time
Like all electric razors, the biggest challenge is contorting the control head of the razor and moving in the right direction to get all the whiskers on your face and neck cut. I've had numerous foil razors in my life, all of which never were able to replace my straight razor. In an attempt to save a little time each morning when I shave, I decided to switch and try a rotary in an attempt to maybe have more luck with cutting the hairs on my neck - and hopefully find a replacement to foam and water every morning. While this razor seems to do better than a foil in cutting the hairs on my neck, it is not without flaw or imperfection. I shave six times a week and the effectiveness of this razor isn't high enough for me to completely ditch my straight razor. There is a fine balance between making an eighth or ninth pass over an area of your face or neck to get those stubborn hairs with this electric razor and razor burn. As a result, I can only benefit from the time savings of this razor every other day as there are often a few hairs on my neck that despite my best efforts and contortion of the razor head, am unable to shave. As a result, I sacrifice the perfection of my morning shave when using this razor in order to offset the probability of razor burn and just leave a few rebel hairs in place until the next day when I get back to square one with a straight razor. If good-enough is good enough for you, then this razor will probably do. If you demand a perfect shave everyday, good luck getting away from the traditional straight razor.

Great shaver
Like it says in the directions, give yourself a couple of weeks to settle in. I moved to this model from a 8240XL Norelco triple header and thought that the new one didn't shave as close. After a week I can't tell the difference when I shave one side with the old and one with the new. Holds a charge for over a month with once a day use and washes clean easier than the 8240XL. The replacement blades are more reasonably priced than the 8240XL and seem to be used on more models and are more available than the earlier model.

As good as I expected it to be, the extra blades are a nice touch
This thing shaves closer and with less effort than my old blade/foil type shaver. I had been using these Philips razors for about 30 years. Last year I decided to try a cheaper blade/foil type of razor. Today I decided that this rotary type razor gives me the best cuts ever. My foil razor hit the garbage can. I'm getting old now and will probably not experiment again. Philips is just the best. I will stick with that. Shaving is quicker and less work.
