I was sick of our electronic ones leaving a puddle of salt and pepper on the table when set down so I was specifically looking for manual grinders that grind from the top. This design also doesn’t allow dust to settle onto the top grinder since it is covered. They are build nicely. Grind pretty finely. They hold a large amount of salt and peppercorns. To grind by turning the upper half, works well and turns smoothly and easily. I understand the need to make the lid not randomly fall out but the design of the lid needs some rethinking. It is a plastic lid in a plastic thread. So far, the mill appears to work well.__________Unfortunately it is impossible to say whether it is more than eye candy as the bottom does not twist open to be filled. The bottom lid only budges a bit to the right and left but not a lot and cannot be pulled out. So disappointed as the idea seems great but the plastic screw in bottom and the wood don't seem compatible.
