Gilbert Briggs, who founded Wharfedale in 1932, turned the company into one of the most famous loudspeaker brands in the world by concentrating on quality and value for money. The Wharfedale Denton exemplified these two edicts, balancing fine craftsmanship, natural sound quality and affordability inside a compact loudspeaker that was bought in its millions right across the globe. The original Denton went on to further other models based on its highly popular formula, the Denton 3 being the last of the line… …until now! Denton 85th Anniversary is a two-way speaker in the classic bookshelf tradition, beautifully hand veneered in Mahogany by Wharfedale cabinet makers with an inset front baffle and traditional Tungsten cloth grille. Underneath the traditional exterior, however, the Denton 85th Anniversary is bang up to date and utilises a mixture of traditional and advanced technology. The bass unit features Wharfedale’s innovative woven Kevlar cone mounted on a rigid die-cast chassis, this combination delivers a rich, detailed bass/midrange output with superb dynamic performance. High frequencies are handled by a woven textile soft-dome treble unit with high flux ferrite magnet, engineered for smooth, detailed HF extension. ## Features - Wharfedale Denton 85th Anniversary Speakers - Sold as a pair - Power: 20-100 Watts | Impedance: 4 O | Sensitivity: 88 dB - Bass Driver: 6.5" | Tweeter: 1" soft dome - Dimensions: 12.6" x 7.8" x 10.8" ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Asin | B011TZEAR8 | | Best Sellers Rank | 151,542 in Electronics & Photo (See Top 100 in Electronics & Photo) 356 in Bookshelf Hi-Fi Speakers | | Guaranteed Software Updates Until | unknown | | Item Model Number | denton | | Manufacturer | Wharfdale | | Product Dimensions | 19.81 x 32 x 27.43 cm; 19.21 kg | ## Product Details - **Audio output mode:** Stereo - **Brand:** Wharfedale - **Connectivity technology:** Wi-Fi - **Frequency response:** 20000 Hz - **Material:** Walnut, Red Mahogany, Black Oak - **Model name:** Denton - **Mounting type:** Shelf Mount - **Speaker maximum output power:** 100 Watts - **Speaker type:** Bookshelf - **Special feature:** Tweeters ## Images ![Wharfedale Denton 85 Mahogany Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41SE+BT-7vL.jpg) ![Wharfedale Denton 85 Mahogany Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91zZkWyxBaL.jpg) ![Wharfedale Denton 85 Mahogany Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91g5s7kVI1L.jpg) ![Wharfedale Denton 85 Mahogany Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81+dOZBRvEL.jpg) ![Wharfedale Denton 85 Mahogany Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91cDaOEIYVL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Are the wharfedale denton 85th speakers made in england or china?** A: Made in good old China. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice music speakers *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 1 October 2025* Lovely flat and expressive midrange treble tuneful weighty bass very nice with quad vena ii ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not like the old (fortunately). *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 20 July 2024* I had several pairs of the originals in the 70s. All I remember is the multiple trips to Tottenham Court Road to get them repaired. I think that was due to the mixture of Akai cassette deck and Amstrad amplifer sending a distorted signal. When I saw these 85 editions I had to have them, I normally buy black speakers but the mahogany is gorgeous. They came next day and were soon singing beautifully on expensive 24" wooden stands. Others have spoken of improvement as they run in, so hopefully better sound to follow.I initially used these hooked to a Rega Elex-r. But with time on my hands I wired up my Naim 72/HiCap/180.Wow, stunning.Am curious now about the Super Dentons but space might limit them. Meanwhile I am going to enjoy these. They are beautiful in all aspects, fit and finish, colour, sound and vfm. Thanks for reading. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really stunning sound reproduction *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 13 December 2021* The Wharfedale Denton 85th Anniversary, limited edition speakers arrived boxed. Inside a pair of beautifully packed cotton bags with a drawstring to fasten them. They come with a pair of soft white cotton gloves to protect the cabinets from handling.Out of the cotton bagsI was impressed right away with the build quality, beautiful quality.A prestean mahogany lacquered vanear finish, each with dual gold binding posts, stunning!I connected the speakers to my hi end class A Master Reference Amplifier.I played many styles of music, from rock, pop, jazz, drum and bass etc.Instruments, especially simbols, (jazz), sounded in the room, hi-end.All Instruments had crystal clear definition totally separated, nicely reproduced.Bass was full and rich, with strong lowes and impressive balanced midrange. The crisp shimmer of Symbols, crystal clear without sibilance, amazing! It's showroom sound in my living room, and all this without hardly any break in time. Also my room is not treated at all.I have other good quality name brand speakers, Elac Debut reference, to name but one, but these are truly electrifying!Beautifully classic with modern technologyI have not heard sound this good at this price point.I have watched and listened to more than 50 Hi-Fi speaker reviews and sound demo's over 3 month period before buying these speakers.Very high quality speakers at an affordable price. ## Frequently Bought Together - Wharfedale - Denton 85th Anniversary (Red Mahogany) - FosPower Banana Plugs 12 Pairs / 24 pcs, Closed Screw 24K Gold Plated Speaker Plug Connectors for Speaker Wire, Wall Plate, Home Theater, Audio/Video Receiver, Amplifiers and Sound Systems - GearIT 14 AWG Speaker Cable with Banana Plugs 14Ga Banana Wire for Bi-Wire Bi-Amp HiFi Surround Sound --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sc/products/228947934-wharfedale-denton-85-mahogany-bookshelf-speakers-pair](https://www.desertcart.sc/products/228947934-wharfedale-denton-85-mahogany-bookshelf-speakers-pair) --- *Product available on Desertcart Seychelles* *Store origin: SC* *Last updated: 2026-10-28*
