STERLING ATS Device

I've canyoneered with the Pirana, Totem, and a standard figure eight, and the ATS is my favorite by far. The asymmetrical shape provides an added half-a-step of friction which is perfect for 8mm or 8.3mm ropes one way, and 9mm or more the other.

I don't like the piranha, but I love the ATS. Just the right amount of friction for me on single strand and easy to switch to plate mode for double strand. Easy to lock off and add friction too.

This is my favorite style of rappel device - many configuration options, easy to add friction on the fly, can use it to separate lines for a jester-style anchor, and for a quick pause, the curved center fits my (female) hand perfectly for a grab (unlike the Piranha, which I can't easily grab because it is wide). Only knock on it is the aluminum is somewhat soft so it wears, especially with the stiffer Imlay canyon ropes. But I figure, even if I have to change it out every 6-9 months due to use, the ease of use makes the minimal investment well worth it. And really, don't you waste $10 or more a month on Starbucks? Something that can save your life is worth more than that!

I really like this rappel device. If you learn how to use it, there are multiple advantages. Among them are the ability to lock off mid rappel and add or increase tension. This will be my go to device for all future rappels.

Got it in the mail looks great haven't used it on a big rappel yet but but tried it off the side of the barn just to see how it works so far very impressed like how it can auto lock if u need it to good product will buy again

I used this device on a recent canyoneering trip and was very impressed. It gave me great confidence and control on long rappels. It offers several options for various levels of friction, and a very simple locking configuration. Works great with the thinner canyon ropes. I love this device!

This is the most versatile device around! Using it to autoblock, lower climbers, and what I love is the multiple friction settings. We've rappelled smoothly/quickly/controlled with double line ropes, to single line ropes that are down to 6mm! go get it!
