Frigidaire FFRA1011R1 10,000 BTU 115V Window-Mounted Mini-Compact Air Conditioner with Mechanical Controls

This is working great! It puts out some really cool air, and is cooling a much larger area than I expected. I had a $500 portable air conditioner that went belly up after one year - ug- and of course it is running in the 90s here in Georgia, and very humid. I ordered this and we huddled in our bedrooms for a couple of days waiting on it. With this unit we have 4 window units and they are keeping this house VERY cool. (It is 1500 square not-well-insulated feet.) This one went in the combo kitchen/dining room. It has done a great job keeping up even when I've used the oven, and after the front door has been open for a while as we carry the groceries in.Installation took my husband, and at one point my son had to run outside to hold it steady while hubby finished the job up, but it only took about 20 minutes including unpacking the box. It uses a standard wall outlet.One of the reasons I bought this one is because I have an older Frigidaire that is 10? years old that still kicks butt. I like the dials too - it was the fancy-smancy electronic controls that went belly up on that $500 one. All my other air conditioners have dials and are easy to use - we don't need remotes, sometimes the more stuff that goes on an appliance is just more stuff to fail as far as I am concerned, though I am generally a technophile. If simple works, I like it simple. In this case, simple works, and it it's working great. The dials are a bit inset, so I'm not worried about a cat rubbing on them and turning them off. (Another problem we had with the electronic portable was that the cats would walk on it and turn it off or down or whatever. That's probably one of the reasons that one died so early.)One thing we've learned is that fans help too - We keep fans and/or air circulators close to our air conditioners. That prevents 'cold spots' and helps cool the larger areas- our home has a very open floor plan & fans in front of the air conditioners helps so much when it is 90+ degrees outside.This one does make noise - at first it rattled and I thought it was broken, but that settled down in 4 hours or so. Since then the sound is present and not what I'd call quiet- but it isn't annoying, and it's not a problem to converse close to it - it is just white noise - it doesn't have any high pitched or sudden jarring noises as the compressor comes on. It's really OK sounding for a window unit.

This is an update from my review from yesterday (text of prior review below). Yesterday I did not notice the tab in the front of the unit that you pull out. It has to do with the vent. With the tab all the way in, the vent is closed. Tab in the middle and you pull in outside air. Tab pulled all the way you vent the air. Yesterday the tab was in the middle. Today I have the tab pulled all the way out and it is much, much colder. I have it running on low right now and it feels good. It feels cool in here beyond the 450 square feet that this AC is supposed to cover. Still running quiet. Happy with my purchase!Text of prior review: Installed today. My opinion so far is Meh. It cools the room some, but does not make it cold the way I like it. I could not afford anything better. But I think with the house fan and the use of box fans around the house it should work. We don't need AC all summer, only for certain days. I live in a mobile home so my living space is small. Installed easily and looks nice in the window. It is a very quiet unit compared to other AC's I've owned in the past.

I needed this for a bedroom and living room area, more area than it was advertised to cool. Surprisingly it cools both rooms well. It takes a while to cool everything down but once it does it maintains a comfortable temp as long as it is running. It is quieter than I expected (except on the high setting which was expected) and it doesn't have the rattle or shake of other units I've used. Other reviews talked about damage when it arrived but mine was in pristine condition with lots of packing material so they may have fixed that issue. The only reason it's not a 5 star is because it doesn't fit a standard window very well and I had to make some adjustments with foam and tape to get it it fit and not have any large gaps bugs could get through. Other than that very happy with the product.

This works SO GOOD!!! I have a 1200 sq ft one story house and it's been in the 90's here lately. Every day no matter how hard I tried to keep my house cool (ie: open windows at night and run fans day/night and close all windows during the day) by the afternoon my house was literally 84 Degrees inside (or higher)!!! I even closed bedroom doors to minimize the areas where heat would come in.So I found this Frigidaire window a/c unit and the reviews were very good overall so I bough it. NOW when it's 90+ Degrees outside and I get home from work evenings my house is 64 Degrees!!! In fact it's so cold that it's almost uncomfortable so I have to turn the air conditioner down so it doesn't blow so hard, and also turn the temperature setting up a little as well so it's not so cold!!!The only thing this one doesn't have it a Remote Control. But I don't care that I have to turn the knobs manually.

The Frigidaire FFRAO611R1 makes my bedroom truly frigid! It has been extremely hot and a bit muggy here in SoCal and I am by the beach and not used to the heat. The air in my medium sized bedroom is so nice and cool I have no trouble falling asleep. When I get home from work I turn the top and bottom knobs to high cool. By the time I go to bed-It's very chilly. It is loud, but more tolerable than the heat, and most nights I can turn it to low(quieter) and it stays pleasant. I ordered it on AMAZON because, even though there were other brands available, this model and brand were sold out everywhere withing 50 miles. that says a lot. It got here fast too!!! Easy to install. I am 66 and did it by myself. I have metal framed windows, so could not fasten to the frame. I put the window down on the unit and propped it up a bit outside with some planks of wood. There are brackets to buy. Very happy I did some research and read reviews.
