Great Quality, Very Easy to Replace
I've purchased several of these over the past few years for my ice maker and they work great. I usually order 2 at a time to cover me for the year. Once you set up the initial in-line adapters, the subsequent filters snap into and out of the water line with ease. I recommend using a water line that can be started/stopped close to the filter so that you can catch the water in a bucket without spilling it on the ground as it starts back up and before re-connecting the outgoing end to water line. The filter requires you to run about 3 gallons of water through it to "break it in" before using it, which is normal for this type of filter and many water filters in general. Copper pipe, even at this diameter, doesn't bend very well without cracking so be careful when installing. I'll continue to purchase this model as long as it is available.

I am very happy with this GE SmartWater Filter replacement
Overall, I am very happy with this GE SmartWater Filter replacement. We were really in need of a water filter because the water was tasting bad and was even looking different. Firstly, the seller for the page for this product on amazon made it very clear as to the description of the item and as to what refrigerator models this product is compatible with. Secondly, the product was at a more reasonable price than one that I had bought previously. I also made sure to look at the reviews before I bought this item. I noticed that people were pretty happy with the product because basically they were all saying that the product was successfully performing the job without any problems. However, I wanted to judge the item myself since I have had problems with other water filter brands I bought on amazon before. We received the GE SmartWater Filter replacement within a few days and in a very timely manner. Furthermore, the water filter was in great packaging and was very easy to set up with my refrigerator. I also noticed the difference in quality between the previous water filter and this new one. After replacing the filter within a few minutes, I tested the water for myself. Rest assured that the water tasted like how it should and the filter did the job well. I have actually recommended this product to a friend and will most definitely buy another one of these whenever this product has done its job and is ready to be replaced.

GE GXRTQR SmartWater Inline Filter
Filter received in excellent condition. Complete installation in 90 minutes. The cartridge must be flushed with water to remove some loose charcoal then stand for one hour. The cartridge must be flushed with water a second time after the charcoal impregnated element is swelled and fully wetted with water. After this procedure no more charcoal will be released from the filter element. You will need a bucket to collect the rinse water as it passes through the filter. The filter needs to be replaced two times each year. It takes a little time for this job but it was well worth the effort as the filter removed all chlorine taste and other odors. The ice cubes taste fresh, thank you GE for a very effective product. I will buy this filter again.

It's exactly the part I needed.
I don't have much to say about the filter cartridge; after all, if it does what it's supposed to, there's no reason to ever think about it again. Well, I guess I have to think about replacing it in a few months, like any filter. There are two bits of praise due here. First, it's nice that GE continues to make available the parts for a twenty year old product, instead of obsoleting them to try to sell us a new, slightly redesigned, replacement.Second, Amazon has made replacing obscure filters very simple. Until Amazon came along, my experience was that who ever sold it to me had moved, when I found them they no longer carried the same line of equipment, the new dealer didn't have anything in stock, and when I found a part with almost exactly the same code it had been redesigned and no longer fit correctly. And after wasting hours and money and finding the right part, it cost twice what I expected. But then Jeff Bezos came along and solved all my problems. At least the problems that resulted from clogged filters.

The box made it look like it was a used item
The filter came on time and seems to work okay. This might be petty but the box it came in was tattered and worn. The box made it look like it was a used item.

Reasonable price - good water taste
I had previously been purchasing some larger diameter inline filters to make the "stab-in" filter on our Kenmore refrigerator last a bit longer. The stock filter that comes with the refrigerator is about $50, so I wanted to avoid replacing it any more than necessary.Anyway, I found this unit and was pleased with the reviews/price. Unfortunately the filters don't include the quick-disconnect kit that is required for installation. My water lines behind the fridge were all threaded, so I was a little stuck until I remember getting a quick-disconnect kit with an old Kenmore inline filter a long time ago. Luckily I hadn't thrown that kit away and it worked perfectly with the GE filters. So, water seems taste/odor free and I'm hoping this will let me get ~1yr out of the built-in fridge filter...

Works as advertised
This took 5 minutes to install and required no tools. First, remove the old cartridge by depressing the small grey slider on the inlet and pull out the hose. Then do the same on the outlet. The cartridge will leak some water, so have a towel handy. The hoses will NOT leak, so there is no need to turn off the water supply. Then proceed with the install. The cartridge is clearly labeled with water direction so you can't screw this up. First connect the outlet by depressing the grey slider again and firmly inserting the hose. Same for the inlet. You should hear water filling the filter. The carbon filter then needs to be flushed. Pour about 2 1/2 gallons of water from the cold water dispenser on the fridge. The water will be a blackish color at first. Wait an hour and pour another 2 1/2 gallons out. DONE.
