Great Device for 3 Year Old
We bought this as a third birthday gift for our daughter. She loves playing games on my iPad so we figured she would love this - and we were totally right! She only has two games right now (Tangled and Pup Pals, or something like that) and she begs to play them both all throughout the day. She already knows how to turn this on and use it by herself, which has been great for car trips and independent play while I'm getting things done around the house. I had read negative reviews about the batteries and battery life but so far we haven't had any issues. I was also a little worried she wouldn't understand how to use the stylus since she hasn't seen one before, but she picked it up so easily and now uses it like a pro. When we bought this, we were deciding between the LeapPad2 and the LeapPad3. The 2 is much cheaper than the 3 but the 3 has the rechargeable batteries. Since our daughter is only 3 and not the gentlest on her toys, spending only about $40 on this as opposed to nearly $100 worked better for us. If you have older children and you think that they'll drain the batteries faster, than it might be worth the extra $60. The 2 is really perfect for young kids though since it's very durable and on the cheaper side. We also try to limit her screen time so she isn't allowed to play this that much throughout the day - I think that helps conserve the batteries and may be a reason we haven't had any trouble with them yet.

Not disappointed :)
After careful review of this one and the other tablet for kids, we chose this one for my 3 year old daughter for Christmas. We are not disappointed and my daughter loves it. The graphics and voices are clear. There are so many things to choose from when considering what to download/purchase for this tablet. There's a variety of games, videos, etc for different ages and levels. The stylus is attached with a strap to the tablet, which is a bonus I didn't realize. She is finding it easy to use, with minimal help. It comes with four apps available for download after purchase and hooking it up to the leapfrog website. The fifth one is the choice of the parents and child, my daughter chose a video that helps teach alphabet letters and sounds. It's sturdy (because unfortunately it's already been dropped) and not completely slippery (but it's large for small hands) so I'm looking into buying a gel cover to help with the grip. The camera is fun, front and back, but she is just starting to get the hang of working the angles to take pictures because of the size and placement of the camera (compared to taking pics on my phone which is easier to manipulate). We were able to choose her age level (early preschool) on the tablet and we can change it as she gets older to help with challenging her more. My almost 2 year old is already interested in it lol. I would recommend this product for sure. It's exactly what we were looking for to help my 3 year old start preparing her skills for school and to challenge her current abilities.

Seems great, but a challenge to convert from an iPad
I really struggled with this purchase. I have wanted to get our daughter onto a LeapFrog product for a while, but she has been using her dad's iPad for a while, as well as my cell phone. We only let the kids play educational games, so I was hopeful that the conversion to a LeapPad would be quick and painless (read: no nagging to use her own computer by mom). It hasn't been an instant hit, and I see a few reasons why - it is slow, much slower than the response time on the cell phone games or the iPad, and she noticed this. As well, the screen isn't very clear. My sister gave us a small Fisher Price hand held computer a few months ago, and this screen is very surprisingly on the same level as that, so mom was a bit disappointed, especially given the huge difference in price. From what I have learned, the apps are also expensive. Given the cost of the games/apps, way more expensive than anything we are using on the iPad or my phone (all free), I am challenged to say this is the best deal on the market. Of course smartphones and iPads are expensive, but if you already have these in your home and are using the educational games, you might stick with what you've got. I was seriously looking for this type of review when doing my research, so if your kid is happy with your tools already, good luck to you. And I am hopeful that LeapFrog might come down in the app prices or we are not buying any more. I'm still going to be trying to get her to use this tablet to work on fine motor skills like tracing letters and drawing, but she gets frustrated fast and likes to learn on her own, so she's not into sitting with me to get the hang of this new tool.

Great Toy and after a CRACKED SCREEN - GREAT Customer Service!!
We purchased 4(!) of these for our kids for Christmas 2012. Our kids range in age from 3 years to 6 years. This has been a great investment. Our kids have learned math and reading skills, behavior, manners, etc. It has offered hours and hours of enjoyment. My husband downloaded multiple apps for each LeapPad2 to tailor each to each of our kids individual learning levels. My 3 year old has learned her alphabet, and phonetic sounds of the alphabet, and my 6 year old has increased his reading and math skills. In the house, in the car, on MANY airplane rides, this has been an AMAZING investment for our kids!Just about a week ago, my 5 year old dropped her LeapPad2 and cracked the screen. I read online from other parents whose children cracked their screen that they called customer service and they got help for it! I gave it a try and I am happy to report that although a cracked screen is not covered under warranty, they were willing to offer us a one time replacement of the unit! I wrote a number onto the screen, emailed them a picture of the cracked screen with the number and in 7-10 days we will receive a replacement unit!We have many LeapFrog products and have always been happy. Now, after having to work with their customer service team, I know we will continue to purchase LeapFrog products in the future. Such a great buy!!!

My twins love these.
You do have to make and account and hook to a computer for set up. Very easy to do. However batteries only last a couple days. But I will say my twins love these, great on car rides just bring extra batteries.

LeapPad2 is a fantastic product
I don't usually write reviews but I felt I had to about the LeapPad2 because I am so impressed. I haven't given it to my 4 year old daughter yet, just got it all set up ready for Christmas Day but I know that she will absolutely love it. It looks and feels like a proper tablet but also child appropriate - sturdy. I bought the MP3 player (£3.50 one off cost) and downloaded her favourite songs onto it ready for her. I bought the download centre card for £8 (app value is £15) and with it bought the Cinderalla ultra ebook, which I've had a go at and I really think will get her interested in reading. The quality of sound and images is very good. The photos and videos that it takes aren't fantastic quality but they're good enough for children. I really like the fact that you can take photos of yourself - I can see that getting a lot of use. I found two free apps by searching for codes on google. The free colouring/drawing app which comes with it I know will be a big hit because my daughter loves doing that on her Grandma's iPad. I bought the pad (£65), download card (£8), gel skin (£2) and will buy the recharger pack (£25) when I can find it in stock somewhere plus a bag (£15) big enough to include the charger as well. So it isn't cheap but having myself spent a fair bit of time on it this evening and barely scratched the surface of what it can do, I am seriously impressed and very happy we decided to give her only one Christmas present this year - this.

a great childrens tab with child friendly games.
Yes you have to buy the games separtely if you want lots of choice, but there are some that you can download for free when you first connect it. My 4 year old daughter adores her leap pad, she loves the alpahet video with Leap and also the games that come with it, We have bought a couple of extras, like the tangled game, and some of the downloadables but when you see how long they play on them I do think they are worth it. Just look at what your child likes and tailor accordingly. There are levels which you can change in order to challenge them with harder words etc, but to be honest using the leapfrog connection software is a nightmare. It is sooooo slow, I usually give up. The leappad I think is the best explorer/gamer concept that leap pad has come up with yet. My son has the leapster which he at the time spent over 300 hours on in the couple of years he played on it. He now tries to borrow his little sisters leap pad whenever he can. and he doesn't mind if they are girlie games.

LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer Tablet (Pink)
My 3 year old daughter loves this thing!!!!!Bought the LeapPad2 for my daughter's birthday on Boxing Day this year and she just can not get enough of it. She has wanted one for the last six months so both myself and the wife decided to go with getting her one and believe me it's been worth money well spent. The product is sturdy and the screen seems quite strong, although its only been two days since she has been playing with it. The pink colour is a really nice pink, the green one looks neat too though with my child being a girl she asked for the pink one. You can buy various games, eBooks, music and apps from the LeapFrog website if you connect the LeapPad2 to the internet via USB cable supplied with the product and download content from the site, or you can purchase games from Amazon which are at a good price. We have not used batteries as we bought the LeapFrog AC Adapter £9.99 form Amazon when we orderd the product. The AC Adapter is good, however it only supplies power to the pad and does not act as a charger, you can buy a charger pack separate for £30.00. This product should last my daughter until she is ready for an I pad lol.A must buy for 3 year olds and kids older :)

Absolutely would recommend
Got this for our almost 4 ear old daughter for christmas and just wanted to share of the joy it has brought. She loves it and after a lot of research we came to the conclusion of buying this. I will keep it short and sweet,My daughter loves it, we love her using it as it is educational and she is learning. There is a great parent reporting facility when you connect the Leappad2 to the Leapfrog Connect website. Tells you how your child is doing, what progress they are doing how you can help them with and what they are struggling with. Its a bit on the expensive side as weve bought re-chargeable duracells, apps from Leapfrog website etc but its worth it if you can afford it.It has also scratched a bit quickly but after buying a rubber protective case its been fine, so our fault really as a 4 year old is a bit heavy handed at times.

Perfect present
I am so happy I bought this for my 3 year old girl, she absolutely LOVES it.a few days before Xmas, I turned it on and oked it up to my laptop. It was very easy to install all the apps and the additional free app, it only took a long time to download but this was probably due to my slow Internet connection. I fiddled around with it a bit and loved all the features. I'm glad I ordered an addapter for it too as it really eats batteries. My daughter loves the drawing app and washing and feeding her pet. She also likes to take pictures and make them look funny by stretching the face and drawing on it. It's a great purchase and she's getting a lot of playtime out of it. As you can change the age category, she will be able to use it for years to come. The apps you can download aren't too expensive if you decide to buy one once a month for example instead of all the kiddie magazines they only use once.
