Don't count on it to work when you need it most
In the first month of using the Street Guardian (SG) I learned 3 things:[1] Drivers in Denver are awful[2] The SG will not record license plates both during the day and at night[3] Do not believe the SG is actually recording when it ways it isTo elaborate...[1] I always suspected Denver drivers are bad, hence the reason I purchased the SG. But now I have data to back up this statement. My daily commute is 2.8 miles. In four weeks of driving to/from work, I had to avoid 7 different accidents. Roughly 56 miles of driving or 1 accident every 8 driven miles. After each near miss, I reviewed the dash cam footage. High quality video and had there been an accident, I would have been cleared of any wrong doing. This is really the only nice thing I can say about the dash cam.[2] If you have any expectations the SG will be able to record license plates, you will be sadly disappointed. All 7 times I reviewed the recording (daytime and night), only once could you read the offender's plates. After learning the SG would not reliably capture license plate info, I learned to read out loud what the plates are. This way, the audio is captured and you'll have necessary information. This little work around doesn’t always work, but it’s better than nothing.[3] The one time I needed the SG to work, it didn't. Driving home from work, a truck turns right on red while traveling 35+ mph. They didn't stop. They forced my car also traveling at 35 mph into oncoming traffic. *SMASH* The truck flees the scene. My car is still able to drive so I follow the car about 100 meters because they are now stopped in traffic. I get close enough to read the plates out loud because I know not to trust the SG's video quality. The car is still on for another 3+ minutes and the SG states it is still recording. That "should" have done the trick. I "should" have their plates and "should" proof they blew through the stop light. I get home and review the footage, and the recording of my commute cuts off seconds before the accident. The previous 10 minutes of my commute home are captured. But when I needed it the most, the SG just stopped recording despite the red recording light blinking on the device. The memory card was just cleared out 2 days prior and was roughly 15% full. No explanation why the device randomly stopped recording at the most critical time.Summary: other than a cute toy, there is little practical use for the Street Guardian.

... amount of time researching dash cams and am VERY pleased that I decided on the Street Guardian
I spent an awful amount of time researching dash cams and am VERY pleased that I decided on the Street Guardian. I live in Phoenix and this camera has worked flawlessly despite the hot environment. The only caveat is that you MUST use a heat tolerant memory card. The heat tolerant cards are more expensive but are essential for reliable use inside this dash cam.The quality of the video is very good. I know that there are cameras with high resolution but quality is NOT purely a function of the number of pixels. The size and quality of the CCD (chip that captures the light) is critical - the array of lenses and their respective coatings is essential - the image processing chip that compresses / creates the video file is paramount - AND how all these components are integrated & packaged is what makes THIS dash cam my top choice. The software (for playback) is also a huge plus with the Street Guardian. I love how reliable the software is and includes the real-time map in conjunction with the video from the camera. I use the GPS sensor with the unit (although I flipped it over inside the packaging, so that I could mount it high on my windshield, rather than on the dashboard) so that I get speed information as well as the aforementioned map of my travels.Final thought... I am NOT leaving any device in my car that has a battery... so, that relegates my choice of dash cam to those smart enough to employ a capacitor for temporary, short term energy storage and delivery. In that arena, the Street Guardian simply offers the best combination of component selection, construction, usability, and reliability.

This Dash Cam Works!
First of all, this a "real" review. I have spent many hours going through tens of dash cams on Amazon, trying to find one that will actually do what it says it will.First, don't always trust the Fakespot app to review a product to see if its reviews are valid. I feel that app can be trusted, but a number of dash cam products have found a way to "game" the results - by using review wording that "passes" scrutiny or in some way fools Fakespot. One expensive ($200+) dash cam had rave reviews that passed Fakespot analysis, but the rating was unbelievably high and all of the 2017 reviews were extremely negative. Also, the prior version of the dash cam had a poor rating by Fakespot. I think they learned how to fool Fakespot.OK, now for performance. The Street Guardian passed my first test - a 2.5 hr trip to and from Cape May, where it was not affected by what was probably 100+F temperatures in my parked car.The grand test was an 1100 mile trip to Minnesota, where it worked flawlessly (I used the polarizer cap for the lens, as it greatly reduced glare.I found it easy to view videos, in 2 ways. First, my Samsung TV allowed me to plug in the USB stick provided that held my 64GB micro SD card. I assume that the SD card holder for the micro SD card would also work if your TV accepts such cards. It was easy to flip through the videos and watch them on my 55" TV (a neat experience). Next Street Guardian's Registrator Viewer described in their pdf manual is a wonder, giving me a history of not only all videos from the last 8 or so hours of driving, but the location and the speed of my car (as well as hundreds of other things I have yet to understand).I tried "locking" a few videos to save interesting views and a neat sunrise, but I think I got it wrong- the videos saved seems to be just before the time I pressed the key, not afterward as I thought.Installation was fairly easy, though I was very nervous. The tools and accessories supplied were the best I have ever gotten for an electronics device (I'm 68 and have built computers from scratch in the past). The trim pry tool was very useful to help me push the cable into the headliner and behind various trim pieces as I routed it to the cigarette lighter socket. I was able to pry loose the trim on the side of the window, allowing me to fit the cable behind it without taking it off (it hid air bags in my Camry - a nervous step). The instructions were "good enough", but a step-by-step set would have been much more helpful. The menu buttons are confusing, but this is expected for a unit where few buttons are controlling many inputs.I'm still in he early stages of using this dash cam (about 1 month), but so far it has exceeded my expectations (I was just hoping it would work and not be killed by heat).

Great support from Street Guardian!
This is the second dashcam I have owned, and it's a great value for the price. Picture quality is good, it's small and easy to mount. The included cigarette lighter adapter was. Enough for me to run it around the outside of the car interior and do a pretty good job of hiding the wire.Support has also been great, I had an issue with the usb cable getting stuck in the camera and coming apart when removed, and upon contacting Street Guardian a new wire was promptly sent! I would definitely purchase a dashcam from this company again.

Useless for Canadian Winter. Manual says -10C is lower limit or unpredictable results
Multiple times in the description it says it works in "extreme" temperatures and specifically references the "Canadian Winter" (with Canadian spelled wrong btw). Just received opened the box and thank goodness I read the manual before unpacking anything else. The manual says the operating temperature is -10C to 60C or "may produce unpredictable results and should be avoided". Minus 10C is extreme? Maybe to someone from the Caribbean. -10C is useless for an outdoor device in Canada.
