Review: Well !...that's most of the house... - Well !...that's most of the house now networked using a couple of network switches ( or - 'splitters' ), carrying internet all around the place - 'hardwired' - ( that is - using CAT7 ( category 7 ) ethernet cables instead of a Wi-Fi signal ) - to the kids' playstations, TV's, and PC's !! And this 'TP-Link TL-SG105-M2 Unmanaged 5-Port 2.5G Multi-Gigabit Network Switch' is part of a couple of network internet fiber 'splitters', including an 8 port one - that are making everything we use for entertainment in the house linked to the internet !! What's not to like ?!! - And it was on offer from desertcart compared to others of similar scope and capability - but so much cheaper than them !! The quality is good, we swear by TP-Link switches ! When they pack up - hopefully not for a long time - we'll just replace them with like for like ! - Simple ! We have used CAT7 cabling around the house though, we've 'future-proofed' using even faster ethernet when the time comes and the internet gets 'silly-fast' ! If you can afford it, try it ! Great signal from CAT7 ethernet cabling ( hardwiring ) around the home ! And this switch is just right for our ethernet bandwidth ! ( That's why we use 2.5 Gigabit TP-Link switches, our bandwidth from our internet provider is over 2 Gigabits. The switch helps in sharing enough of the ethernet/internet 2 Gigabit bandwidth signal between watching internet TV and when the kids are using the PC or playing games on their XBOX or PS5 at the same time ! I hope you understood that. ) It's not that hard to understand, just go to Youtube or something, and learn how to use a switch - what size bandwidth switch you might need if you do need one, and how to install it ! ( If I can do it - believe me - you can too !! Good luck ! ) 5 Stars for great Prime delivery - next day - thanks desertcart - and this brilliant little discounted TP-Link 2.5 Gigabit Switch that makes such a difference for us all in the home ! ( And maybe for you too soon ?...) 5 Stars !
Review: Plug it in and off you go - Does exactly what it says on the box, great price, no complaints - why look for something fancy when all you need is plug and play!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Looking to use a poe switch in the loft but no power, so i am looking to use a pair of injectors using existing cat5. possible?**
A: PoE and PoE-PD are different. If you need a switch that does PoE for things connected to it (APs, cameras, phones, etc.) you need a PoE switch (e.g. this one). If you need to power the switch itself over Ethernet you need a PoE-PD switch (e.g. the Netgear GS108T-200UKS). If you need both, you need a PoE-PD switch with PoE (e.g. the Netgear GS516TP-100EUS), some way of powering it (PoE, power socket), and at the moment if your devices need 802.3at there aren't any PoE-PD + PoE+ capable switches.

**Q: do not have a degree in computer science - will this give me four wired connections to my 4 pc's and does it have ipv6 in it - believe essential for running home group on W7 - current router only has ipv4.**
A: Yes I do as it happens, and a MCSE. Please don't be so harsh, only trying to help in my replies. Yes it will give you 4 wired connections at 1GBs if your hardware supports it, or will auto negotiate speed if your hardware does not. The first 4 ports on this switch are POE (power over Ethernet if required, if your equipment is compatible, please see TPLinks website for details). It will route IPV6 and IPV4 with no problems. By default Windows 7 only uses IPV4 anyway all versions both 32 and 64 bit. So if you can access the internet with your present router config you will be ok. Ask me another question if you wish and will tell you how to make W7 cough up it's IP config. Hope this helps.

**Q: Does the unit come with a 230V power supply unit as it is not shown?**
A: The switch I has was "TP LINK TL-SG1008P which did come with a separate power supply. Your model is TL-SG108PE which is slightly, different but
I'd be surprised if it didnt include the PSU also. Hope that helps.

**Q: Can i use it to replace my existing Annke 4 cameras port as i need to add 3 more cameras to my existing 4 cameras?**
A: This switch has 8 gigabit ports in total, however, only 4 are POE, so you will be able to power 4 cameras from it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great 19" rackmount switch – Silent and Reliable!
*by V***R on 22 February 2026*

Perfect fit for my 19-inch Tecmojo cabinet. It’s completely silent (fanless) and the metal build feels very solid. It comes with rackmount ears and screws in the box, so installation was easy. Getting full gigabit speeds across the house with no issues. Highly recommend for any home server setup!
