IQAir PF40 Accessories, Coarse Dust Prefiltration Kit

Save your money and dont buy this kit. Instead buy the 5 filter replacement package. I bought this kit, which comes with three filters, and found that the filters themselves fit snugly enough in the bottom of the IQAir that using the brackets is not really necessary. After you give it a try you will probably feel the same way. It is also a heck of a lot less trouble to replace them this way as well. If you decide that you want the brackets, you can always order the kit later after trying the filter on it's own. I wont be installing mine... anyone want it?Update 12/24/11I have now used all three of the filters that came with the kit and have ordered the 5-pack of filters only. I find these filters extremely effective at capturing coarse dust particles and prolonging the life of the prefilter. I replaced my prefilter after double it's normal life. I am still adamant that the kit is not at all necessary, and that the filters alone easily fit snugly in place right under the prefilter. In addition to fitting snugly in place, the suction of the air makes it effectivley clamped right on it. The IQ air itself is a wonderful machine.UPDATE 1/23/15Beware the price gouging from sellers here on Amazon. The 5 pack of filters should cost $55 and can be found online.

I have two IQAir HealthPro' Plus Air Purifiers but I live in an area where at times there is a lot of blowing dust so the pre-filters are really essential. They are probably a good idea wherever you live as you are saving the expensive filter at the next level. It may not be absolutely essential to have this Coarse Dust Pre-Filter Kit but the frames that come in the kit keep the pre-filter spaced away from the next filter. This will allow the pre-filter to work more effectively. The frames are nicely machined and the hardware fits really well and installs easily. It is also easy to take the bottom frame out and replace the pre-filter.I previously ordered this item twice and twice got the wrong item. I put in a 1-star rating to warn people that the right item was not being shipped when they purchased this from Amazon. I also contacted Amazon about the problem but the issue persisted as another reviewer had the same experience a few weeks later. IQAir saw the poor reviews and alerted the seller, Zadoozy. Zadoozy contacted the other reviewer who had the bad experience and me. They are very proud of their company and wanted to make it right. The gentleman from Zadoozy called me and explained that to make 2-day shipping possible around the country, they send stock to Amazon to be sent to buyers from Amazon's warehouses. The Zadoozy people don't know what happened but have pulled all of the stock of this item out of Amazon's warehouses which is why, at the moment, the kit is not available from Amazon. Once the items have been inspected by Zadoozy they will restock Amazon and all should be good.The gentleman from Zadoozy asked me to change my review and once I heard how they were going to see that the right item is shipped, I have rewritten my review. I do like the item. Zadoozy says they are going to send me a spare filter. It feels a bit uncomfortably like a quid pro quo but I do want to let people know about the product and the good customer service. You will have to judge for yourself whether this review was influenced by Zadoozy's insistence on sending me a free filter.

Nice. It went right into the bottom of the machine.There are pre drilled holes and the kit came with a screw driver to put the screws in.It also comes with 5 washable pre filters.I would give it 5 stars but it was kinda spendy.It will save us a bunch of money. Now we can clean the pre filters instead of those big exspensive filters inside the unit.I did change the bottom filter and we had the smell of solvents as some others reported with new machines.It smelled to me like the styro foam the body of the filter is made from.Maybe they need to look at their material selection.

Though IQAir may tell you otherwise, the PF40 is a necessary component for maximum effectiveness and unit longevity. Despite the three star review, the PF40 is a highly recommended addition to compatible IQAir units. It is unfortunate that IQAir has not provided the PF40 as a standard option, thereby forcing customers to swap out the prefilter prematurely. Lose a half-point for an ungasketed seal which allows for bypass. Lose another half-point for not providing extended filter change reminders for units with the PF40 installed.

The filter really doesn't need the holder kit. As another reviewer mentioned. I really looked at it from an engineering perspective and suspect that unless you are using your IQAir in an environment where super crazy fine dust exists like loads of powder floating in the air, just buy the filter alone and stick it on the bottom. There are a few of the tiniest of areas where the filter kit MIGHT make it seal better for situations like this. If you have in fact "Coarse Dust" like pet fur just skip the kit and buy the refills. It is still a great product and deserves 5 stars though because it is very well made. Remember that is does come with filters so the entire price isn't for just the frame.

This thing collects a ton of dust. It's definitely better then having the pre-max gunked up. These filters are cheap and the kit keeps them in place to the manufacturers specifications. I tried purchasing just the filters and using tape/etc as a workaround before getting this kit but the mesh retainer is worth the investment.
