## Overview

The Yumheart Gardens Bocking 14 Comfrey Root Cutting is a non-invasive, organically grown herb prized for its nutrient-rich composting ability (NPK 1.8/0.5/5.3), high-protein animal fodder (26%), and medicinal allantoin content. Ideal for gardeners seeking sustainable soil enrichment and livestock feed, this cultivar spreads via roots but produces no viable seed, making it manageable and eco-friendly. Perfect for zones 3+, it thrives in sandy soil with moderate watering and is a proven fast sprouter.

## Description

Comfrey has a wide range of uses including herbal medicine (salves, tinctures, compresses), livestock feed (horses, cows, donkeys, sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits, and pigs all love it!), and the making of compost and plant feed concentrates. It is a favorite treat of our chickens and rabbits. Comfrey has historically been used to heal wounds and broken bones. There are several types of comfrey available, but only two (Bocking 4 and Bocking 14) that do not produce seed (and thus do not become a tenacious weed). Be careful about tilling a comfrey bed or plant though. Each little piece of any variety will become a new plant. Bocking 14 >Slightly higher medicinal properties >More spreading, shallow root structure ideal for areas of shallower soils, shallow water tables, or growing in large pots

Review: Comfrey Roots - When I received my 3 root pieces, they seemed a little small, but one had already started growing in the bag that it was shipped in. There were no planting instructions, but I put them into small pots of potting soil. The already sprouted one began to green up and grow., Now a 2nd one has started to grow. I am waiting for the 3rd one to sprout. I am very excited that they are growing. Since it is winter, I will leave them in the pots and I will plant them outside in the spring when the weather warms up. Don't give up because they seem small. Give them time and they will grow. I planted all at the end of November and by January 1st, the 2nd one that showed no growth when I received it, sprouted and began to grow. I am keeping them both in a sunny window and water them when the soil seems dry. Hopefully with time, the 3rd one will sprout as well.
Review: Happy I took the chance to buy - All four of my roots have started growing so I am very pleased. I was hesitant on ordering after reading some reviews but I decided to order anyways. I followed the instructions soaked for four hours and I started mine in pots because I have clay soil and these need loamy soil. I used some compost with sand mixed in then I set them on my back porch behind the shade cloth. One sprouted really fast within like three days and slowly over the last two to three weeks the other three have sprouted.

### ⭐ It’s mid may and the root was started in February. Nothin! Nada!
*by D***D on May 12, 2024*

It arrived in Feb.looking rather sad , a very small root with some hairy roots . I followed planting instructions and put it is a pot to start indoors right away. Truthful y it did not look viable. Sometime in March i transferred the contents to one of my comfrey patches, my intention was to bring in some fresh stock to an established space. It’s mid may now and there’s nothing growing. However my other bocking 14 plants are growing robustly, like weeds. The seller says to exhume the tiny root for inspection. Which seems pointless. If thats their plan I will just cut to the chase and take root from one of my plants and start over. I imaging that had i ordered the four pack i would have some success, but their price for those little chunks is sort of ridiculous. Its comfrey Basically once established it grows anywhere and like a weed. Stick a shovel next to one you’ll get more roots than you need.
