Great product that is well worth installing on the car floor.
I finally wised up and insulated the floor of my '17 Outback. I had already added butyl rubber matting and closed cell foam to the doors but I had ignored the floors. Bad decision on my part. I know now that much of the road and tire noise comes through the floor and the wheel wells. So after removing the seats and the carpet I installed closed cell foam and mass loaded vinyl (MLV =Second Skin Luxury Liner) on top of the OEM sound deadening (butyl rubber). Each component plays a part in noise control: 1) butyl rubber matting with a foil backing stops metal from vibrating, 2) a closed foam pad (quiets rattles and helps control temperature inside the car), and 3) mass loaded vinyl (stops the noise in it's tracks) . Of course step 3 is much easier to do on a horizonal surface (the floor) than it is on a vertical surface (the doors) because MLV is HEAVY and isn't easy to hang inside a door. So many installers don't use MLV in their car's doors and I didn't either. BUT...adding those 2 extra materials to the floor made a huge difference in my car. I don't have a decibel meter but everyone who rides in the car notices the difference now. I'm very pleased with the end result. Is my car as quiet as a luxury car? No for several reasons. My Subaru wasn't engineered to be a luxury car from the ground up like a Mercedes or a BMW. The metals used are lighter, the window glass isn't as thick and the suspension isn't ...well, luxuriously quiet! Second Skin Luxury Liner is easy to cut with scissors and somewhat flexible. It lays nicely on flat surfaces but is too thick to conform to indentations in the floor. The manufacturer recommends that the edges be taped down, but I don't think it could move with the carpet installed over it.

Good quality MLV
Exactly what I was hoping for. It’s a heavy sheet, but still flexible and a manageable size. I’ve bent it pretty aggressively and not seeing any signs of tearing. Like I said, good quality.

Doesn't cancel hardly any noise
It barely works at all. Doesn't even cut down the sound from a laptop on medium volume.
