I tried it out by slicing some cheese off of a block of cheddar and slicing some brussels sprouts in half. It definitely is sharp and, for cheese, it is easier to cut straight slices than with a standard paring knife. The fit and finish is far from bad considering the price point. I see myself grabbing this thing multiple times a week for various tasks that I dont want to use a full-sized knife for. It will be interesting to see how long it stays sharp and how easy it is to put a sharp edge on it in the future. This definitely is not going to be something that you use for 'cleaving' anything unless you're a koala bear chopping eucalyptus leaves or something like that. Wood handle is dyed or stained from the factory. The color has washed out, but that's no issue for me.
