If your Jeep steering wheel keeps wondering off while driving, specially on uneven or a rough road, most likely the steering stabilizer needs replaced. This Monroe Magnum SC2928 Steering Damper worked great on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee, even though it has larger tires, and I recommended. I used an impact wrench to remove it. To have better access to the bolt head closer to the passenger side, just turn the wheels to the right and you'll have plenty of room for the impact wrench. The only issue you may run to is removing the yoke by the pitman arm. Although I had put some penetrating oil the night before, it just wouldn't come out, not even with a 4 pound hammer. But I got it out using ball joint puller. Since it was bad anyway, I just cut off the stabilizer piston so one of the bolt joint puller adapter would fit over the yoke. Using the impact wrench, it came off in a few turns. You can use a puller made for this purpose, but the ball joint puller was the only one I had and it worked. One thing about the installation of this new damper, to prevent damage to hardware don't use an impact wrench, and make sure the tapered stud the hole are free of debris or rust.
