Review: Love at first bite.......... - I had a thought last week that I need to incorporate more fish in my family's diet and what better way than sushi? All my family likes sushi, so it's a no brainer, right? Not only that, but my boys will eat vegetable sushi too - so a great way to get more veg into their diet as well. But ready-made or restaurant made sushi costs too much - we can't afford it on our budget. Not being an experienced sushi maker, I was a bit concerned too about how well it would turn out if I tried a sushi mat to start with. Enter Sushiezi, which I tried tonight. Wow, is this great!!! I made the rice just as the directions said. I used spray oil once to oil the Sushieze for 3 rolls. I used 1/2 c + maybe a tablespoon or so more on each half of the Sushiezi. I then used the pusher, like the directions say, to make an indentation for the filling. I put in a bit of cucumber, mango and smoked salmon for my husband and son. I used avocado in place of the mango for me. Followed the directions, pushed out on a sheet of Nori, wrapped and sliced. DELISH! I am so excited about this! Now to the cost...a very important component as well to consider - to make dinner for three of us tonight, I used 1 1/2 cucumbers (served with cucumber-sesame salad), 4 c. sushi rice (2 c. raw), not quite 1/2 pkg Trader Joes Wild Alaskan Smoked Salmon ($13.99 per pkg?), 3 sheets of Nori, 1/2 fresh mango and 1/2 small avocado along with some rice wine vingegar, sugar, salt, wasabi, soy sauce and toasted black sesame seeds....All in all, sushi dinner for 3 that was filling cost maybe $12, or $4 each (and likely less). I recently spent $8 on a small spicy maki roll at a fast food sushi place at the mall. To me, this tasted better and I knew it was made with quality ingredients for half the price. Such a deal! And truly, you can get creative and cut that cost immensely just by varying the fillings. I cannot wait to try different ideas (green tea smoked tofu, quinoa, sweet potato, broccoli rabe, shrimp...and then there are ideas running through my head that are far removed from sushi....shepherd's pie rolls, for starters). Seriously, the possiblities are endless!!!! Oh this will be fun! Not only that, by using ingredients I can control, I get to control the caloric content. The only criticism that I could possibly come up with about this product is that I wish the rolls were a little smaller. As I become more accomplished and adventurous in the sushi realm, I'll work on hand rolls that aren't as big. But in the meantime, this is truly a great product. Even when I become more experienced, I can totally see using this product for a long time and for a number of different things. I see this being a great tool in my kitchen. If you are on the fence about ordering it, it's absolutely worth the $18! It is fast, it's easy, you can get really creative with it, it seems to be well made, few parts, etc. I can totally see making rice the night before and putting a roll together in the a.m. for myself for lunch. And as I've said, I see this being a fun tool to get creative with. Ultimately, this is something I could even teach my 7 year old to use so that he could come up with his own sushi rolls. Great product! I think I'll be ordering these for Christmas gifts!
Review: ALMOST a perfect product! - I've used this every day for the last week. It's easy to get the hang of how much rice and fish (or veggies) to use, the close, the smoosh, and the extrude part works perfectly. I wish I had bought it sooner. Do I love it?? NO. But I do like it an awful lot... It it truly a love/hate relationship. The rolls are much too large! These are TWO BITE rolls and no self-respecting sushi chef would serve these. I am not a trained sushi chef, however, so I'm cutting 9 or 10 pieces per roll. When they are that thin, they don't always hold - but it hasn't stopped me yet. That being said... For home use, I would still recommend it. It is still very easy to use, much cheaper than a good quality restaurant, and a lot of fun! Update 3/30/15 - Still in love with this! Actually ordered a second one when I bought a new house and this was stuck somewhere in storage. Could not live that long without it! I've gotten better at the rice prep so slicing 10 pieces per roll works great and makes them bite size. I would still like a smaller version but this is so much better than take out! A few tips: --Getting the rice right is a big deal but not hard. Many websites offer instructions. Equal parts rice wine vinegar and sugar with a touch of salt, heated and tossed into the slightly cooled rice (SHORT GRAIN OF COURSE!) seems to be about as difficult as it gets. Mine was perfect the second try - alter the amount of vinegar and sugar to your taste. --I also use a bamboo mat to wrap the rice roll with nori. --Don't forget to have a bowl of water available for your fingers and your knife. UPDATE: 4/22/2012 Okay - I've grown to LOVE this things. I still wish it was a little bit smaller but I can overlook that! I still use it at least once a week and have become very good at makin' the rice. I keep it simple. Mostly smoked salmon and avocado, touch of wasabi. A quick shot of cooking spray on the inside is helpful for easy release, slides right out. UPDATE: 10/16/2013 Still going strong! I put this in dishwasher when I use it and it is holding up beautifully.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Makes great sushi rolls
*by B***R on November 4, 2013*

Sushezi lives up to its billing - it works very nicely and produces perfect looking sushi rolls (futomaki) in minutes. It's very easy to use and should standup to a lot of use. The two halves can be separated for cleaning, but I recommend not doing that because the hinge pins are easily damaged. I found that out the hard way - I broke one of them the first time I used it (it's still very useable though). The instructions have you loading rice into the halves with your fingers; I found that using a fork is a whole lot less messy and actually is easier. Overall, its a great tool if you enjoy sushi rolls. I've found these to be a great dish to bring to social gatherings. They're guaranteed to start a conversation about where you got "the beautiful sushi".
