Netgear WNDR4300

Great Value - Great Performance
Very happy with the refurbished Netgear WNDR4300 so far. My old 2.4Ghz router was starting to fail as I began connecting more devices to it. We live in a 1400sq/ft row home, so I wouldn't say our house is big, but it certainly needed a router that had an extended coverage area. This router worked right out of the box and I now feel like I'm getting the most out of my expensive internet. Since it's refurbished, it didn't come in any fancy packaging, and didn't include a disk, which is fine since all of the documentation is available online. It did come with the stand, power supply, shielded ethernet cable, and probably something else, I forget.I have a total of 13 WiFi devices ranging from a PS3, a Nest, iPhones, Blu-ray players, etc. and the consistency of connectivity has never been better.Features I enjoy:Dual bands: most devices I have connect over 2.4G, but my iPad 3rd Gen only connects over 5GHz, go figure. This is actually the real reason I bought it.Easy Dashboard: The user dashboard is simple and intuitive for setting up permissions, changing settings, viewing logs, etc.ReadyShare Cloud: Kind of a cool feature. I connected a LaCie 1TB hard drive that I had laying around to the router via USB. with some configuration, I can use that hard drive as a cloud storage drive. App is cheesy, and so far I've only figured out how to download from the drive, not upload. oh well, still neat.Simple Setup: Setup is simple but has plenty of advanced features for those who want to get the most out of their router. Also has a Quality of Service (QoS) menu for configuring which items you want to prioritize bandwidth to.Recommended for: someone who wants a quality home networking router, lives in a medium sized house, and has lots of wifi devices, and who wants to save some money on buying a brand new version of the router.

As all ethernet cables and cable modem meet up in a metal box imbedded in an exterior wall on the far end of our house, I have no intention of using the wireless aspect of this. Actually disabling this feature proved surprisingly difficult - the router GUI gives you the option of enabling or disabling each individual band (2.4 and 5) via menu - except it won't actually allow you to make the changes. Even after updating to the latest firmware, after extensive checking of the menu and attempting various methods to 'trick' the router into saving the changes, I eventually concluded that it is impossible via software. The only way to turn it on or off is to hold down the Wi Fi button on the router itself. The device itself however installed quite easily and performs very well as a router and wired switch. I will still likely replace the firmware with DD-WRT as the GUI really only works for basic functions - I can't edit or even locate a routing table for instance. Maybe it requires netgear genie apps to do this, but I'd rather have smarter firmware than install additional programs on each computer I may want to use to manage the network through.

Netgear Genie is Useless - Saved by DD-WRT
The only saving grace is the ability to replace the Netgear firmware with DD-WRT; Genie was nearly unusable and would spin for minutes trying to load the basic interface so I could perform initial setup. That's the only thing keeping this from being a one-star purchase. Even that task - took several tries as the admin interface barely loads. That said; after DD-WRT was installed - this thing performs admirably and hasn't caused me a single issue.Long story short - unless you're going to replace the Netgear firmware - don't buy this.

Installation is easy if you can read
I don't know what people in the reviews are talking about when they said this was difficult to set up. They must all be completely computer illiterate. It really is just plug in and go, and in the package there's a slip giving the website for directions on how to set it up. Getting this as refurbished is an exceptional deal, so far it has been working excellently without issues. I will update this review in the coming months if any issues arise with the performance of the router. So far I don't have any complaints.

Refurbished - Perfectly good - Arrive a day early!!!
Refurbished. Minor scratch on front panel. Great value for price - Saved $30 vs. new. Arrived a day early!!! Set same username and password as my old wireless router and I was back online in under 5 minutes. The included USB port seems to slow to handle a hard drive, but handles a USB flash drive capably.

Very reliable. Super Fast. Cheap. What more do you want?
Considering a router? Do you use Mac computers? Do you have an external, USB hard drive? If you answered yes to all three, this is your baby. The ONLY complaint I have so far, is that you cannot use this to retransmit an existing wifi signal; a complaint that comes only after a very specific situation 99% of the populace won't run into. Otherwise, this guy is spot-on.

So far so good. The only slight hiccup I had was when I initially plugged this into my Motorola Surfboard cable router. Initially the Netgear would not get an IP address. I cycled power to the Surfboard, and the Netgear got an IP. I am now running using that combo and everything is great. I am getting about 5mb faster speeds than I was with the Comcast wireless router.

Kudos to manufacturer
I was skeptical before buying this. But trust me, it came with a whole new packaging and cables. It was easy to sync up devices(more than 8), with this router. One more advantage is that it gives you an option to connect with the 5G network setting option from this router. Most of the latest smartphones(I used Nexus 5) support the 5G connection. I now get a consistent speed with this router and sometimes even play 1080p videos from youtube without any lag.
