It **Q: Do the shoulder pads make a difference?** A: Yes, they do. I bought the 140lb vest 6 years ago. It's still holding up to being used every single week, loaded to the maximum 140lbs for the last 3 years. While the shoulder pads aren't very thick, or heavily cushioned/padded, they make a significant difference at 140lbs, simply by being wider, and distributing the load over a wider area. This vest puts all the load on your shoulders. The pads definitely make a difference. **Q: Can the weights be removed if I buy the 40lb vest!** A: Yes.
