I have generic rods that throw lots of sparks but I am struggling with this one.** A: I thought the same thing, once I rubbed off the black on the rod...No problem. I will say that using the side of the piece of metal attached worked best for creating lots of sparks. **Q: Will this work with an schf2** A: It will work with anything that has hardness above 7 and a sharp enough edge to scrape material off. I've used them to throw sparks with everything from the included scraper to the spine off a knife to a piece of sharp rock. I've even seen someone gets sparks off one using a piece of broken glass. **Q: Is this made in china? usa??** A: ALL ferro rods are made in China. Some are marketed by American companies. There are no production facilities for ferrocerium in the US **Q: I purchased the schrade scaxe2 and lost the ferro rod that came the handle. could this be used as a replacement? will it fit the handle?** A: it is quite a bit smaller than the one that comes with the ax.
