Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I mostly got them for working out in the wind and rain and I'd agree that they're pretty wind proof but haven't tested them much in the rain. They keep your hands plenty toasty if you've got your heart rate up but not at all if you're just casually strolling or spectating. And they were very cold when I wore them on a motorcycle ride but I know that's not what they were made for... I was just testing their limits. I am a pretty tall woman at 5'9 and have long fingers. Usually large gloves are too big but after reading other reviews I decided to size up and I'm glad I did.
