Excellent workout program. More effective than P90X2, TapOut XT and Rushfit.
This is an excellent workout program. I've tried P90X2, TapOut XT1 & 2 as well as Rushfit with GSP and this program is more effective than all of those. I wish I would have stumbled across kettlebell exercises years ago. I know these workouts are more effective than the other programs I've tried since my daily routine has provided clear evidence of the cardiovascular and strength improvements I've gained using this program. Everyday I encounter a large flight of stairs that had me winded even while I was regularly using P90X2, TapOut XT and Rushfit. After 7 weeks of using this Skogg system, I'm no longer breathing heavy when I reach the top of that flight of stairs. The increase is strength is equally evident in that I now lift the same objects I regularly encounter much more easily. Kettlebell workouts are the best workouts I've come across. As a kettlebell beginner, I find that the Skogg system DVDs provide excellent instruction. The DVD's begin with how to grasp a kettlebell and then move on to how to develop proper kettlebell form and movement technique.A 12 week workout program calendar is also included with the DVDs. Each workout has the standard format of a warm-up segment followed by a workout segment followed by a cool-down segment. The warm-ups vary among the different workouts, which adds some variation and keeps you engaged in the warm up itself. The workouts themselves offer four different levels of difficulty. Levels 1 through 4 use the same movements, but differ in the length of time the movements are performed. After having just completed a 90 day run of TapOut XT2, I figured I could start at Skogg level 2 with a 16 kg bell, but it turns out I was closer to a Skogg level 1.5. If you're new to kettlebells, just follow the suggestions on the workout calendar and everything will be fine. If you haven't exercised at all in quite a while, then you'll want to start out with an 8 kg bell (for males) or 4 kg bell (for females).I'm currently at level 3 and the workouts take about 35 minutes total including warm-up, workout and cool-down. I can't currently keep up with the instructors at level 3, but I pause as needed and go at my own pace. I suspect level 4 will take about 40 minutes. The Skogg workouts require less time than the other programs I've mentioned and provide better results. These kettlebell workouts also require less equipment. That's a win-win right there. Using this program, I've become more fit in less time. That is awesome! These kettlebell workouts are interval based, which is the proper way to optimize your time spent exercising. Interval-based training gets your heart rate elevated for one to three minutes at a time and then provides a short rest period before the next exercise. The human body responds best to this type of training. And yes, you should perform these functional exercises in bare feet as is shown in the videos. The human foot is extremely well designed from a flexibility, articulation and balance perspective. No shoe can yet match this design. Your core will benefit the most by performing these exercises with your bare feet planted on the ground. If you need a foot cover, I recommend trying those Vibram toe shoes. As a beginner with kettlebells, I also learned a few things about kettlebells themselves. One should do a little research and purchase a well-made kettlebell to make your experience much more enjoyable. I learned the hard way that not all kettlebells are created equally. I initially purchased a kettlebell from a local, chain sporting goods store. That was a mistake. A good kettlebell has a properly designed and manufactured handle. The kettlebell handle should be of the appropriate thickness, appropriate width and have the appropriate smoothness. The bell I bought from the local sporting goods store has a handle that is way too thin (1.2") and way too rough. My blistered hands drove me to doing some research online. I found a vendor on Amazon selling OFW (One Fit Wonder) brand kettlebells, which have a nice combination of quality and price. The OFW kettlebell is a major upgrade over the mistake from the local sporting goods retailer. The OFW bell handle is thicker (1.5"), smoother and just feels better in the hand. Do yourself a favor and buy a decent quality bell. My research also indicated that relatively fit males new to kettlebells are suggested to start out with a 16 kg bell. 8 kg for fit females. The 16 kg bell turned out to work very well for me. You'll also want to buy a lighter, warm-up bell, which should be about 1/2 to 3/4 quarters of the weight of your workout bell. One of the warm ups on the Skogg DVDs does make use of a lighter bell. If you're new to kettlebells, you'll also want to use the lighter bell to perfect your technique. If you're a beginner like me, I recommend you practice the movements on the Skogg introduction to kettlebell technique DVD with a lighter, warm-up bell before moving on to your workout bell. Also, viewing the technique DVD every three weeks or so will allow to see to what you're doing wrong and right in terms of technique. After performing the movements yourself for a while, you really get a lot more out of the technique DVD each additional time you view it. Fitness is a marathon, not a sprint.I also purchased a pair of the Skogg kettlebell gloves, which have a nice pad on the forearm area. These gloves are comfortable and have held up well after seven weeks of use. My plan is to complete the 12 week Skogg workout calendar and move up to the next size bell then repeat the 12 week program. My hope is that Skogg creates a sequel to this set of DVDs. A bell fan I am. For me, there's no going back to other forms of exercise. Kettlebell exercises require less time and produce better results.

Excellent DVD's with an addicting System
I need to be clear, blunt and truthful in my assessment of the Skogg System..... It is, in a word, great.I have never worked with Kettlebells before and haven't really worked with weights for quite a while. I had amassed horrible habits such as eating and drinking way too much along with exercising way, way, too little.I am forty-eight, overweight and was in need of some serious changes to occur. I got the eating and drinking under control but that left with me the battle scars of a hard lost fight with my weight. I tried going to the gym, uh, can you say fiasco. I tried miracle weight loss fasts, detox's and even went to weight-loss Doctors (pill pushers in white coats instead of dark alleys) and finally the dreaded late night infomercials.I used to ride my bicycle quite a bit so I jumped on the old steed and gave it a go......btw, my legs now look great! The only problem was that my beer/food gut was shifting and changing shape but not diminishing. Things were not going as planned, but I digress. It was during this time that a infomercial for a Kettlebell workout was on late-night TV. I was curious. I definitely did not want to purchase it (based on other late night promises failing to even reasonably pass the credibility test) but it sparked a curiosity with me.Now for the best part. I am a consumer of goods distributed on Amazon. I read reviews prior to purchasing (made easier without the late night stupor) and my fellow Amazonians heartily praised this set. I ordered the DVD's. I purchased Kettlebells (to my shock and horror, I soon discovered Kettlebells are not created equal) and made the commitment.I couldn't be happier. The program is extremely easy to follow. NO GIMMICKS! Correct form is stressed and the workouts are challenging and extremely doable. I am actually stunned that I am following a program and seeing results. The quality of the production is just as many reviewers have stated....fabulous! The voice narration is encouraging and quite honestly delivered in a way that makes me want to work harder.... that part is very hard to explain, so much so that I am actually having a hard time not doing more. This is where the genius of this system pays off. He includes a nifty chart and workout guide that details the progression from couch to warrior. It is working so I won't try to sabotage it.Sorry for the long rant/review but I am seldom this excited about any product, let alone a workout product.Lastly, I am stunned that a simple Kettlebell combined with superior coaching can deliver long sought after results.
