Wow. Amazing Soil!
I never thought I would write a review on pond plant soil, but I am. I obviously have no life.I wish I had used this soil before. I usually bought standard pond soil which was incredibly expensive and messy. Also, had to buy planters with slits so roots could have water flow. With this product, plants have water flow even with regular pots. In fact, instructions on bag suggest sealing any opening. This soil is like gravel. Reminds me of clay cat litter. It isn't messy and won't get under your fingernails. I found out when I rubbed hands together and shook, they were totally clean. It's also a great exfoliator. My nasty dry hands are so smooth now.Although picture shows a 10lb bag, you will get 25lbs. I did anyway. The bag of soil is larger than you can imagine. I assumed I would get some lame compressed pond soil in a small bag as usual. Not so. The bag I got was big. Really big.My plants seem really happy after using this soil. I will update if they die or start looking ill

Just as expected...
Nothing special - typical of the product - but this is very nicely sized and is nearly dust-free. Transplanted water lilies are thriving in it after about a month of recovery. Be sure to use aquatic plant food. Note that for water lilies, only a 2-3 of inches of soil are needed - just enough to almost cover the root system. You may be interested in the application:We've a shallow decorative pond which is possessed by a nasty algae demon. Bleach keeps it in check, but of course will kill any inserted plant life. Solution was to purchase 12" deep circular planters, woven liners, plant food, and this medium. The planters are set in the chlorinated water (which never gets in), and are watered automatically with fresh water. The lilies are becoming truly lush and are filling the planters at their rims. Now we'll see if they offer up any blooms (in light of their robust appearance, I expect no difficulties.)

Works great for growing dwarf lotus (so far)
Got a wild hair up my butt and decided to try growing a bunch of new and different plants. My wife suggested growing lotus and I was down for the challenge (albeit on a smaller scale, in containers growing dwarf lotus). I ordered the seeds and read up on how to germinate them. After I saw roots forming on the seeds, I purchased this aquatic "soil" and transferred them to their "permanent" containers. The soil is really gritty and doesn't float around in the water. I took a star off because it's so frickin dusty. It wouldn't have been a big deal if it wasn't specifically said that it wasn't dusty. I had to rinse countless times to get the water clear. Very unexpected and quite annoying. After it ran clear, I was BEYOND pleased with the performance of this planting media. It also looks awesome under the water. At a couple months in, my plants have their heaters (kept around 80 - 85F) and water filters and are quite happily growing in my living room under their artificial lights. Tubers have clearly started to form as there are sprouts popping up a couple of inches from where the seeds were planted. Based on their growth so far, I imagine they will continue to grow and develop just fine in this planting media. I also purchased the same brand of aquatic plant fertilizer for when they get to the point of needing it. Here's to hoping they both work well together!I can't tell you whether this will work for your application, but if it's similar to mine, you'll likely be quite pleased as well! I'd definitely recommend, just prepare for the rinsing prior to use.

Screen those pot holes!
The media could not be loaded. This is my second purchase. This stuff is awesome. We re-potted last season and the plants tripled! We are re-potting again this season! Word...if your pots have holes in the bottom lay non-metal screening in the bottom just high enough to cover your drainage holes. This will keep the planting medium from running out of the holes while it is dry. I cut up an old screen door screen.. plastic..perfect! Plus the roots can pop right thru the screen as it growns. For taller plants, I put a brick in the bottom of the pot to keep them from tipping over.

The product is easy to setup
not sure about this product yet. Planted some elepahant ears in our Koi Pond with no results. Its been about 2mnths and the plants had to be removed. Maybe its the elephants ears that were the problem. The product is easy to setup. Does produce some cloudiness once you submerge but seems to disappear quickly. Giving it a neutral for now as I dont know if it was this soil or plant..

not just for ponds
30 years ago when I started gardening the nursery sold ceramic pellets that looked just like aquatic pond medium. I have heavy clay soil and these pellets were miracle workers for loosening the soil to increase the oxygen potential at plant roots. I noticed that what I planted in the treated soil grew to twice the height of plants in other areas. And it never breaks down--30 years later that original bed is still growing tall plants. I thought nurseries had stopped carrying the product but noticed the API product. It was made from the same "ingredient" of my much loved soil amendment. I have been happily using it ever since and recommend it to my gardening friends.

Happy plants and clean pond water.
Very happy with this product and have never used another. Easy to use, holds the plants well and doesn’t cloud the water. I transplant the water lilies almost every year because they tend to grow almost all the way across the pot. I distribute the fertilizer pellets throughout the plant media.

It was perfect!!
Planted a water lily with this plant media. It was perfect!!!! I finally bit the bullet and paid the money for the plant media so that it wouldn't dirty my pond and dirt and such weren't floating in it. This worked just as advertised. I used only this, no dirt, to plant the water lily. I had a little bit of the rocks I guess break loose as I put the water lily into the pond but no floaters, no dirty water... awesome!
