The speeds can get insanely fast (if you don't have controls in place) and I was very pleased with this purchase. I don't know if it works with other Lego trains, as this is the only one I have. You remove the original chassis (including the rear wheels), remove various parts from the top of the chassis (See set instructions for more details on that.), remove the train wheels, and install the included Technic cross beams into the cross shaped holes on the motor. Install the wheels and the various parts. Install the motor on the locomotive. Feed the wires through the hole in the bottom of the cab. Wrap the wires around the little hook in the cab above the control panel printed element. Attach to the battery box on the tender.
