I love heavy pens because I tend to grip them very hard and the extra weight allows my hand to relax while writing. This thing may as well be a baseball bat and I LOVE it. This is a no joke EDC pen as well with its weight and stainless steel body. It is heavy in hand, but that weight leans back balancing the pen beautifully allowing far smoother lines. My handwriting has even cleaned up some. The mechanism is great as well. Very strong spring, crisp action and a not difficult or strange to use. Feels very natural. The seamless design looks beautiful, my only slight tick is that is was coming loose occasionally. I added tiny drop of thread lock and solved that problem without making it too hard to open again. The clip is HEAVY not easy to bend and secured with 2 Torx screws. (Also needed a little thread lock, common with metal on metal) The ink cartridge is okay, I didn't really expect much. It cuts out randomly fairly often, sputters and jumps a bit too but I expected to need to order some new ones. Not sure on the storage capacity, but it does seem to burn ink pretty fast. Just as satisfying to unbox as a fountain pen. The pen and pencil themselves are gorgeous, gleaming, smooth, solid, heavy, pure stainless steel barrels; finely machined with careful attention to detail and seamlessly finished with mirror polish clips and bolt levers with strong, tactile operation. They are the writing utensil embodiment of steel with a satisfyingly notable heft. Normally with fountain pens you just let the natural weight of your hand press the nib. With ballpoints you have to press a bit, but the weight of these combined with the smooth, willing flow of the ink cartridge makes it very nice to write with. The pencil uses a German 0.7mm Schmidt Feinminen System insert that screws into the head, which just makes it that much more mechanically intriguing, like any high-end mechanical pencil. If you prefer 0.5mm, you can buy one quite cheap from desertcart. The girth and length of the standard pen is comparable to a typical sharpie or the length and weight of 2 1/2 aa batteries. I imagine the slim version may be more comparable to the F-701. Seems like its meant for left hand.** A: the bolt action is absolutely on the wrong side of the clip. with its current orientation, either the clip or the bolt will be in the web of your hand while writing, and it is VERY uncomfortable. It is a shame. If the bolt were on the right side of the clip, this pen would be perfect. As it is, it is a hard pass. **Q: Is the hole in the tip large enough for refills with a 1.4mm point?** A: The tip of the pen is 2.5mm and the width of the cartridge that it comes with is 2.3mm. I’m willing to bet that a 1.4mm refill has a neck that is too big to go through. I could be wrong though. **Q: Is there a way to order replacement screws for the clip?** A: Glad I'm not the only one. My clip unscrewed in my pocket and the screws were lost. Impressed by the reviews and images of the Bastion over the slew of these things on the market now and took a chance. Arrived today and awed everyone who are now considering purchase. However, after got home and tried it out, the bolt handle knob was loose and bound up the action. It wiggles and turns freely but this doesn't seem to be designed to do so as it jams the bolt. The fit and finish otherwise are amazing! The barrel/cap joint seam is invisible till its opened to access ink and disappears when it is screwed back which itself is pretty awesome. It wrote incredibly smooth and the weight drives the pen across the paper. I want one of these for myself and planned to get one for each of my sons in college but I'm put off by the bolt handle problem - really disappointing especially considering the beauty of this pen. Overall rating gets 3 stars for the letdown after the fast delivery and good initial impression. Value and Comfort are all the way and Durability is moot if it doesn't work. I submitted a return/exchange and we'll see if this was just a quirk - although some other reviews gave the same issue. Will follow up after exchange. Following up: Sent the first unit back and received another quickly. This one was tight and worked properly and had the same quality in finish. I followed the pro tip in another buyer’s review and cut a piece of firm foam (like the pool noodle kind) and tucked it up in the end thru the bolt knob slot. If one imagines (maybe too much) this imparts a satisfying “thump” like a suppressed weapon opposed to the loud “clack” the pen action has - loud as dropping the slide on a chambered round in a crowded room. Depends on one’s preference but I think it’ll keep it going longer.
