## Description

The Sony ICD-SX2000 High-Resolution Digital Voice Recorder has 16GB of internal memory and can capture up to 636 hours of MP3 recordings. Additional storage can be provided via its microSD memory slot and optional memory cards. With the REC remote app, the device can be controlled wirelessly from your Android or iOS device over Bluetooth. The recorder sports two adjustable microphones, allowing you to capture stereo recordings in a variety of placements. Three settings include Zoom (for situations including business meetings), XY (for things like band rehearsals), and Wide Stereo (for recording outdoors). You can adjust the sensitivity of the microphones in a variety of different ways, and set the device to record only when it hears noise above a certain level; in such a manner, the recorder can be voice-activated. The ICD-SX2000 can record in WAV or MP3 formats, and can play many different kinds of files - it even sports FLAC playback support. You can play audio through the unit's built-in speaker or over headphones. You can also plug a microphone into its 3.5mm input jack. To eliminate the need for cables, the device sports a retractable USB plug, which you can use to plug directly into computers. 96 kHz Linear PCM Recording capture sound at up to 96 kHz / 24-bit. FLAC Codec able to play FLAC files, the ICD-SX2000 allows you to hear lossless audio with the clarity and dynamics that the artist intended. S-Master HX Amplifier the S-Master HX digital amplifier cuts down on distortion and noise across a wide range of frequencies. Control Recordings Wirelessly start and stop recording, adjust levels and settings, add track marks, and more - all with your smartphone; the REC Remote app, available for both Android and iOS devices, lets you control the recorder at a distance over Bluetooth.

Review: A great recorder and excellent addition to Sony's voice recorder line - This is a very good recorder. I've owned Sony digital recorders and tape recorders for 30 plus years. This model is excellent. I used this at a crowded meeting to record sessions and even though I was sitting well in back, the recorder (using the 300 kpbs setting) did an outstanding job. (People who say they aren't seeing improvement or much difference from other Sony recorders should adjust the recording settings.). The quality is crisp and clear. I also uploaded the recording into one of the services that automates transcription. They are dependent on sound quality, and the transcript I got back was very good. Sony is great on interface. Anyone who has used their recorder before will recognize immediately the layout and functions. It's intuitive and easy to use. I haven't tried the bluetooth function yet. I may update this. Sony makes a great digital recorder that cost half this price (model ICD-UX560) that also does a great job, but there is significant improvement with this device. The microphones are far more sensitive, the sound is deeper, richer and more complete. The is much better than Sony's earlier line of PCM recorders with the fixed microphone positions (PCM-M10). I use this device for interviews, so I can direct the mics at the subject to improve the sound. I think it's priced well and definitely worth the extra money, especially if you record at conferences, meetings, where the audio can be difficult. A big plus is this comes with a very nice case that provides some decent protection. There's also a wind screen. It has a built-in battery that seems to have a long life to it. I haven't tried to measure it.
Review: A great device but could be so much better! - After multiple uses of this device, my view of it is very mixed to say the least. It is certainly not as versatile as it could be. Restrictive recording capability is the best way I can describe it. It has 16GB of internal memory available which if you use the full capability (24 bit/96k) yields roughly 7.5 hours if recording capability, which for most purposes is more than adequate. There is also a slot available for microSD cards but the highest resolution capability is not available with that slot. That makes no sense to me. I often record at multi band festivals, so if I use up the internal memory, I have to either switch out recorders or settle for a much lower resolution to use the card slot (16 bit/ 44.1k). I for one would like to maximize my ability to record music. That’s not possible with this unit and why I can’t give it 5 stars.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it have blue tooth for iPhone?**
A: Yes, you can control it by iPhone through blue tooth to start stop recording, and some configuration

**Q: Hello, can this device record a cell phone and land line call? I don't mean by holding the device close to the source of sound.**
A: This device does have an external audio input which can be adjusted to record mic-level or line-level signals. Audio from a telephone can be sent to this input using a telephone recording device. Such devices are available using a telephone jack and/or an induction pickup. The audio from a cell phone can be similarly captured and recorded using the cell phone's headphone jack and appropriate hardware and/or an induction pickup. I'll leave it to others more familiar with telephone recording to suggest or recommend telephone adapters. Please review the laws regarding recording of telephone or other conversations to make sure your application is legal.

**Q: Does this recorder have a mic and remote port?**
A: It does have an external mic input (1/8 inch) and comes with an app for your smart phone but no remote port. The app is for basic control of the unit like record on and off, pause and input level control and the app gives visual indication of battery life, recording resolution and the waveform as it is being recorded. One thing I don’t like about the unit is the lack of choices for resolution quality either with a micro card or the internal memory. Great unit over all.

**Q: Does this recorder have zoom function technology for recording things at a distance like some olympus recorders?**
A: No

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's the only recorder I could find that had a truly modern feature set and reasonably good industrial design
*by N***K on June 15, 2017*

Sound quality is solid, build quality is solid. It's the only recorder I could find that had a truly modern feature set and reasonably good industrial design. The app connectivity is super easy to setup, works flawlessly at a long distance and is actually well designed and useful. I'm sure there is some feature that this doesn't have that a competitor does, but in terms of product experience, I would be surprised to find a more thoughtfully constructed product in this class.
