Excellent porous planting medium
I love this planting medium for transplanting my vegetable and flower seedlings. It has been great for all varieties. This is way better then the leading well known brand potting soils you get at the big box stores. There are no big twigs or chunks of wood. A great potting soil for indoor and outdoor use.

As a Master Gardener I use Pro mix every year ...
As a Master Gardener I use Pro mix every year to begin my seedlings however when this 3.8 cubic foot bale of promix arrived wrapped in clear packing tape and cellophane Unfortunately they used the packing tape to seal up all the holes that were made pre shipping with box cutters they were actual slices so when I took off the cellophane the Pro mix had been contaminated and crumbled all over the porch

Why buy anything else.
A bit pricey on the zon. Great product. Drains well, root growth is outstanding. Plants are super healthy. I have a second bail ready to go.

Make sure you are getting what is being advertised!
The bx is great. So is the hp. I ordered the bx and after having a rescheduled delivery, and waiting 2 weeks for it to arrive, it was the promix hp that I received. I’ve ordered promix from this seller several times before and never had any issues so I don’t know what the problem was this time. Obviously I’m not about to send it back because the hp is a good product. However, I have been running the bx for a while now and like it better than the hp for my needs. So this is very disappointing. Beware of what is being advertised and what you’re actually being shipped.

Insects don't seem to like living in this, which was a great relief to me.
I bought a bag of this a couple of years ago on the advice of an expert on a gardening website, but I actually didn't actually use it until I bought a couple of elevated beds last year. In one I put in moisture control potting soil which I had used in my planters and I put this in the other elevated bed. One of the things I found very annoying, especially when I had just planted seedlings is that birds would constantly root through the moisture control potting soil, and I lost half of my seedlings because of this. The birds were looking for insects that were living in the potting soil. However I noticed that they did not touch the elevated bed with the Pro-Mix in it and when I looked through the bed I could not find any insects living in it. And I don't have to clean up all the soil that the birds throw out of the elevated bed onto the concrete when they are rooting through the soil looking for insects, so I find that a relief. Now due to the high porosity of the Pro-Mix, I find myself watering the elevated planter with the Pro-Mix more often than the other planter but I have less to sweep due to the fact that the birds are ignoring it. I also found that this has less nutrients than regular potting soil so I am going to add fertilizer before my next planting. And when I harvest the vegetables in the other elevated planter with the potting soil, I am going to replace the potting soil with Pro-Mix. I had originally bought my first bag of Pro-Mix at my local Home Improvement store, but they stopped carrying it so I was quite happy to find that Amazon carries it.

It was shockingly bad! Product was wet and had a bad smell
Product arrived severely damaged in very old packaging I haven't seen in years - not as pictured. Soil was missing and coming out of holes. Bag had been taped with clear packing tape over about 1/3 bag. It was shockingly bad! Product was wet and had a bad smell.

and the like, as with other mixes
If you are serious about container planting, this is the quality of potting mix (not potting soil) that should be used. No little bark chips, and the like, as with other mixes. When I was in the Interior Landscape industry, this is one of the mixes we used for small to large planting beds. Absorbs and holds water very efficiently and affords the root system of plants to be established to the maximum. Don't think twice, just get it. Yes, I know it's a pricey item, but the follow through rewards are to be envied.

Great stuff for my Cannabis plants here in Colorado
Great stuff for my Cannabis plants here in Colorado. It drains very well, retains enough and leaves lots of air in the soil. It holds its structure and doesn't settle as much as other potting soils. Extremely fast growth and the PH was easy to adjust. My plants are healthy and very happy.
