Based on a video of the Crosstrek install of this part, there is a small white plug under the driver's side taillight in the Crosstrek that this plugs into. The plug is non-existent in my Impreza. Installed on my 2026 Forester. The only fiddly part was getting the factory pig tail out from the back left corner. It is taped back on the the harness. I used a linoleum knife to reach in and cut the tape. From there you can pull it out and remove the tape. I replaced the terminal ring on the ground wire with the larger ring supplied in the kit and then was able to use the bolt holding the metal bracket that supports the carpeted floor panel. I put the controller in the center below the hatch catch, reinstalled the styrofoam cubby and coiled the trailer wire in that ready to feed through the bottom of the hatch when needed.
