Customer service warranty
We've had this unit 8 months and started having problems with the unit a month ago. It's making some weird noises. Although it is still under warranty getting this thing repaired/fixed is a customer service headache. The first time I called I was on hold over 20 min for service and no one answered. Second time the rep gave me a number to call about getting the unit looked at by a service company in my area and that company told me they don't do stand alone dehumidifiers. The 3rd time I called I finally got someone who knew what they were talking about. However the 'service company' in my area is over 50 miles from my house and I would have to drive the unit there to be looked at. Since that is insane I have to pay out of pocket for an appliance repair company to come and look at the unit, not have it serviced, submit a service report before being allowed to have the unit repaired or replaced.

Manufacturer's warranty service stinks.
The unit arrived and one feature, the pump, didn't work. I contacted the manufacturer, as indicated on the enclosed literature. I was told to contact a local dealer. The nearest dealer said I had to bring it in to be "looked at"; a 60 mile trip. And no idea when they would be able to look at it, so another trip if they fixed it.Good news - I was able to return it thru Amazon.

Worked great, until it broke
Worked great, until it broke. We live in a relatively humid area so I bought this unit for my basement specifically because of the capacity of the dehumidifier and the integrated drain pump. This unit worked like a charm and dramatically reduced the humidity in our basement. After about 6 months the pump failed and the unit became very loud. It has stopped working entirely and I am currently in the warranty repair cycle. The closest repair location is unfortunately an hour away.Update: Not worth the price point. After the unit failed I had to transport it 45 miles just to learn that the repair was not covered under warranty even though the pump became junked up and filled with debris well within the first year of use. Do not waste your money on this unit. I will be getting one with a continuous drain only and routing it directly into my condensate pump for my HVAC system,.

STAY AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BABYSIT THIS UNIT'S SETTINGS!!!
The reason I purchased this Dehumidifier for my garage is it offered a pump feature which doesn't require bucket to be emptied daily. I called Friedrich 3 days after receiving unit because the unit timer function didn't seem to function properly and the unit either dried area out too much or not enough. Friedrich will not replace unit, it's less than two months old. Their instruction, drive it to an authorized repair shop. Ideal humidity for health is 50-55%. The automatic HUMIDSTAT on the Friedrich is completely INACCURATE. Please note the photos of the Accu-rite Humidistat, notice the Hi & Lo relative humidity levels on the Accu-rite. I try seting the humidity level 55- 60% on the Friedrich, the high at 68% as depicted again in photo is indicative of a machine not functioning correctly. Sometimes it reads 55-57% for actual humidity in air, mostly it doesn't. I miss my Kenmore, it crapped out after 11 years, it was pretty damn accurate based upon Accu-rite Humidistat's I've used for years, never allowed humidity to increase to a high of 68% or go as low as 46%. It increased to those type percentage when it was on its last leg.The photo's were taken evening of 7/21/2018 and the following afternoon, they're good considering the days when I've gone into garage the Accu-rite would be well above the level set on the Friedrich. Trying to set the Dehumdifier between 55-60% to acquire an ideal humidity percent of 55% is like trying to find needle in haystack, it does what it wants to do. I'd say stay away and try another manufacture.

Great workhorse. Best quality dehumidifier. Not perfect.
Very effective dehumidifier- best one on the market IMHO. I run two Friedrich machines in the basement of my mountain cabin. Very important for keeping mustiness at bay. They run for hours each day. My original Friedrich is going strong after five years of continuous use. Other brands I have tried (e.g. Frigidaire, Whirlpool) do not last as long. The humidistat is off by a consistent 7% on this machine. Annoying, but not worth boxing it up and trying to exchange. My other Friederich has a humidistat that has been very accurate for five years.Overall, for the basic functionality of removing water from the air and running reliably I definitely recommend these machines.PS- I use one with the gravity feed drain and the other with the built-in pump for drainage. Both work fine, though the gravity feed on the 70 liter can be finicky.PPS- my review of the 50L unit from 2012 applies to this one too: https://www.amazon.com/Friedrich-D50AP-Dehumidifier-built-continuous/product-reviews/B006Q5SD0M/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewpnt_lft?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=positive&reviewerType=avp_only_reviews&pageNumber=1#reviews-filter-bar

Not reliable. No warranty repair depots in SW Ontario. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Update - October 12/17Downgraded to ONE STAR. The drain pump no longer functions properly. On the website, I found the only service dealer in SW Ontario was located in Stratford, which is a about a 45 minute drive. I called them, only to have them tell me that they only service Freidrich items THAT THEY SELL. Since I bought my dehumidifier on Amazon, I am now out of luck, despite only being 3 months in to a warranty that is supposed to be "All encompassing" for the first year....I bought Friedrich because they are made in North America. I am now going to fight with Amazon to return this unit, since it is GARBAGE.Plugged it in. Set the humidity level. Turned it on. It hasn't shut off since! (that was almost 48 hours ago). I bought this unit to replace an aging 28-pint dehumidifier that was showing signs of age. I really *really* like the fact that this unit is quiet, and it has a drain pump, so that the dehumidifier can push the water up to a sink to drain, without my having to constantly empty the drain bucket. I thought that the timer on this unit was going to be like a clock, so that you can set start times and stop times (and synchronize it with cheaper night-time electricity rates), but it is not that sophisticated - it is just a count-down style of timer, meaning you can set it to shut down in xx hours, but then you need to switch it back on again afterwards (i.e. no automatic timer re-start; loses one star as a result). The "easy answer" would be to plug the unit in to a timer, but in that case, the settings always reset to default, which are different than what I want the settings to be.

READ THE REVIEWS ! Dead after 6 months, Friedrich refuse to honor the warranty
EDIT: stopped working after 6 months, the pump is broken and the company isn't helping with the warranty. I should have read more reviews before buying, as many others buyers had the same issue. The dehumidifier is leaking water everywhere on the floor because the pump isn't emptying the water bucket anymore.EDIT AGAIN: I contacted Friedrich about the warranty. The service is horrible. Had to contact them multiple time until an employee wrote back saying if I bought my item on Amazon I have to ask Amazon for the warranty. This is BS! Amazon honors the warranty only for the first month, after this it's the manufacturer's responsibility, not Amazon's. It's just a cheap trick for the manufacturer to reduce the warranty claims. Very disappointing service for a disappointing item that dies after 6 months. Note that the item was sold on Amazon by FRIEDRICH itself, not by Amzn or another 3rd party. The item was sold by friedrich, shipped by friedrich and it even came with a 1 year warranty card in the box.

Works like a charm. Fast dehumification and great tank!
Bought this for my wife's home-based business. Placed it in a small room that was always getting really hot and humid. After letting this dehumidifier, the difference was like night & day! It's easy to run, has a huge tank so it can run for hours without having to dump it. It comes with a hose attachment that can flush the water out, but we haven't had to use that since the tank holds so much water and hasn't really filled up in one sitting. The only issue is that it's a tad noisy, but that is to be expected with this type of equipment (It's like trying to get a vacuum cleaner that won't make noise.) It's also on 4 casters which make it easy to move short distances in order to access various parts of it. I got this while it was on sale so it was definitely a great value.

the most efficient dehumidifier
It is the most efficient dehumidifier in the market. We used two units at the same time prior to purchasing this one, a Kenmore and a Garrison dehumidifier. The Friedrich system removes more water from the house than the two other systems together. I am very happy with the purcahse.

Overall it improved basement air quality
Functional, hassle free, with drain line and a pump option, It's maintenance free, just have to clean the air filter which is very easy. Captures quite a bit of water quickly. Perfect for the basement washroom/shower room.Downside is it's loud, not suitable for some environments like bedrooms. It's the digital controls could use more fine tuning options. i.e. ability run on a schedule, ability to set on/off threshold (permanently set to 5%) i.e. if desired humidity is 45%, it turns off at 40% and turns on at 50%.Missing an ultra quiet option to keep it running at night.
