I dont know what causes my ear pain but this helps a lot. It's soft enough that sometimes I can sleep on my ears without bothering them too much. I also have problems with my jaw and the pillow agitates it a bit, i assume because of the dip in the middle sinks in more than the rest. I have to adjust the pillow until I find a spot that supports the rest of my head properly. But I still like it and its become my main pillow.
