Han pasado bastante de moda los módems USB gracias a que todos los teléfonos modernos llevan la opción de crear un punto de acceso WiFi. No obstante, sigue siendo conveniente utilizar un módem USB para añadir una conexión a Internet de respaldo en un router o para poder usar el móvil y no depender de él para dar Internet a otros dispositivos. Con este modelo de Huawei, es posible crear una red WiFi para compartir Internet con hasta 16 equipos cliente además del que conectemos por USB, manejar parámetros de red avanzados y enviar SMS. La configuración de la conexión 4G debe ser automática en la mayoría de casos, aunque no viene mal que apuntes lo necesario para configurarla manualmente si es necesario, como el APN y las credenciales. Me ha sorprendido que en la configuración del aparato (por defecto accediendo con un navegador a 192.168.8.1) se puedan escoger parámetros avanzados de red, como reenvío de puertos, parámetros de enrutación o configurar un cortafuegos básico. Mientras reciba corriente, el módem se conectará de forma autónoma y emitirá la WiFi: puedes enchufarlo en una batería, por ejemplo, al USB de un autorradio o directamente a un enchufe de la pared con un adaptador de corriente USB. El alcance de la WiFi es discreto, como cabe esperar de un aparato así y sólo soporta la banda de 2,4 GHz. Sólo tengo un reparo y es la elevadísima temperatura que parece alcanzar, particularmente con varios clientes conectados por WiFi. No obstante, aún no se me ha reiniciado ni me ha dado otro problema. Lo empleo también de conexión de respaldo en un router y funciona exactamente como esperaba.
