It gives me a sense of optimism and at times, thorniness, as if something has not resolved––even though the Chiho Saito’s manga gives the ending more thoroughness than the anime. Again, that is simply my opinion. *Spoilers* In terms of characterization, the manga version of Touga Kiryuu is the utmost compelling and interesting. Unlike the anime, Touga is truly in love with Utena and is the only one besides Himemiya to remember her after Utena sacrifices her entire existence. I actually relate to him a great deal, about his worldview and why he wants this power to revolutionize the world. “Tenjou, have you ever felt…that you were an outsider? That this place we look down upon…It’s like another world, far from the real one? Our true world exists someplace else. We all want to get that world back…So we can finally return to our deepest selves. This world we inhabit…It’s like an egg…A small world encased in a hard shell. The chick will die, unborn, it it doesn’t break through that shell. It will die, without ever knowing that it’s a bird! If we don’t break the world’s shell…we’ll die without being born…without knowing we can fly! And I want to fly.
