Singer Futura XL-400 4-in-1 Sewing & Embroidery Machine w/BONUS PACKAGE

A bit of a learning curve but worth it so far. I have had some strange behaviors including running backwards or not going in reverse at all but think I have figured out how to fix this behavior is as simple as switching the needle up to needle down, then switching back to your preference after running it forward and reverse. Love the big embroidery field and am looking forward to making quality embellished projects. 1st 10 + color design has gotten rave compliments. Who knows, I may start to quilt too.

I have had several Singer machines in my lifetime and loved them all. But this one is horrible. It does not hold stitch tension, it does not recognize the hoops, and it won't stitch a straight stitch that holds. I would love to return and get my money back. I will not recommend Singer ever again. I can't get this thing to work at all. I guess I was one of the ones to receive a lemon. I will not try again for this amount of money. I'll go to Babylock before I go back to Singer, ever! I just can't depend on them anymore.

Haven't used all of it's functions working on the embroidery part and by it being via computer I am slowly but surely learning that function first. I do like how it embroiders but have a problem threading it because that is part is enclosed other than that I'm happy with it.

This is the most wonderful machine she has ever had. Which as you know happy wife happy life.. :) I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone interested. We had a brother 4" by 4" one before this one. Take my advice and spend the little extra for a way better machine.

I have a Singer Quantum 6000, that I had to send in for repair. I bought this machine, essentially, to replace the 6000. The quilting feature on this new machine is real nice...the extra room on the arm and bed is good. But I have had problems with the embroidery function, in that the machine is telling me that thread is broken, when it isn't. Overall, I'm quite satisfied, but was expecting a more reliable machine in embroidery use.

I bought this machine. It just didn't work for me. Thread kept breaking. Too annoying, I wish I would have listened to the other reviews. I gave this machine away and purchased a brothern770 instead.

The Futura XL 400 is exactly what I was looking for in a sewing machine! I spent many weeks reading reviews and visiting stores while trying to decide which machine to buy. I couldn't be happier with my decision. For general sewing, the machine is solidly built, easy to thread, runs quietly, and has many additional features that my old Janome didn't have. The embroidery unit works well and I had no problems at all getting great results. Some of the software takes a little bit of time to learn how to use, but isn't especially difficult. (I am still getting the hang of some of the editing features) I used the Autopunch software to convert clip art to embroidery and was thrilled to see how well it worked. The only thing I have found frustrating is that the storage bin on the front of the extension table doesn't open easily. The back one is fine, so I predominantly use that one. Also, this is a large machine. It does not fit in my large sewing cabinet. I don't see this as a negative for the machine, but just something to be aware of.
