Untreated wood in its original form has a light, pale character from its natural 'raw' appearance. Sanded wood also has the same effect. Osmo Polyx-Oil 3044 Raw is designed to retain this appearance by using a small amount of white pigments to neutralise the permanent 'wet-look' that develops after application of a clear finish. Review: The finishing is fantastic. Will buy again. Be aware of a few things: 1. It has very intense paint smell that lasts a few weeks. First week is quite strong. 2. Wear appropriate PPE as skin contact with hardwax oil will lead to allergy reactions for most people. The finished surface will not. Review: Despite the associated price tag, this product delivered exactly what my research online claimed. So the colour or finish is described as “raw” and it is probably as close to that, wi try out darkening the wood, but still giving a smooth silky finish, without just leaving the wood bare. I used a cloth to apply it, it does say 24 hours drying time before applying a second coat quickly, so so far I have the first coat on. I tried a roller and a brush before settling on the cloth as to apply thinly the first two applicators just gave me too much of a varied result, with the cloth it wa easy then to wipe off the excess product to give what I feel is a perfect coverage. The tin says it (750ml) will do 30 metres squared. I have done a 12 metre squared area of spruce floor boards and used maybe 2/5 of the tin so I am confident the cloth application method has enabled me to achieve the optimum application rate. So coverage estimation was pretty accurate. The smell of the product is pretty congenial as well… it sort of combines with the freshly sanded wood smell So overall ease of application and product quality were great. It would have been better though if I had been able to obtain a sample sachet as fast as I could obtain a large tin as this is a very expensive product and I would have liked to have been able to test it first. Having used the clear satin before which does affect the colour as per again, internet research which backs up my personal findings, if you want to keep the natural colour, this does it. The photos show it going on in the guest photo, and the finished look in the second photo. The third photo compares it to a polyurethane varnish in satin finish showing how much darker the wood could go if I did not get it right. The wood is spruce.
