Q: Does this make a sound when it shuts off? Or when you turn it on, for that matter? So many beep and it limits nighttime use.

It doesn't make a sound when turning on or off. It has a low whirring sound when running but it's very faint so perfect for sleeping. It will last all night too.

Q: If you are happy with this diffuser, how big is the room you use it in? What kind of maintenance soes it require?

We use ours in a 14x20 room. Clean with a dry paper towel before refilling each use.

Q: Does this diffuser have a light that stays illuminated while the machine is on?

There are two very small indicator lights. One is for continual output, the other for interval output. The light isn't enough to use as a nightlight, as is the case with my other diffuser.
