Decent quality for the low price
First, a plug for Amazon Prime. I ordered two of these mics yesterday afternoon for two-day delivery with free Amazon Prime shipping. They arrived in one day instead of two. I don't expect I'll always get this level of service, but since it actually happened, I want to recognize it. Thank you, Amazon.Second, unlike the picture of the ATR3350 on Amazon.com and unlike at least one of the reviewers, the mics I received have a stereo TRS plug. I was prepared to have to convert the audio from mono to stereo in post, but I'm not going to have to do that. I almost chose different mics because of this. After reading a bit deeper on the Audio-Technica website, this is a change I think they made in late 2011 or early 2012. It's still a mono mic; it just has a stereo plug and provides the signal to both channels. Before buying, I read and watched several reviews of the ATR3350, especially when used with the Olympus LS-10 audio recorder. The general impression I received from the reviews was that the LS-10 builtin mics were significantly better than the ATR3350. I purchased the ATR3350 anyway, because I wanted a lav alternative to the LS-10 in front of someone's face for video. And I figured for $20, it was worth taking a chance. After doing some of my own testing, I would say that the LS-10 mics are better, but the ATR3350 certainly yields decent audio that well exceeded my medium low expectations.Compared to the LS-10 mics, the ATR3350 returns more low-frequency noise, and it also needs more gain. I tried turning on the LS-10's "low cut" filter. This cut out the noise, but also makes voice recording sound too thin. I think I'll just deal with the low-frequency noise in post. With the LS-10 "mic sense" set to low, the ATR3350 was barely loud enough even with the recording level gain set to max. I set the LS-10's "mic sense" setting to high, and turned down the recording level gain, and this seemed to be a better way to configure things. In short, the purchase looks like a good one. A powered mic, long cable, stereo plug, windscreen--features that are hard to find all together, and available for about $20--this seems like a good deal. I'll know more after processing my next video shoot.

Excellent Mic
Until recently I was using the built in microphone on an action camera (so you can imagine the quality) to film tutorial videos for yoyo tricks. When I decided to step up my production quality, the place with the biggest room for improvement was the audio. I asked a friend and professional audio engineer to help me find something good without breaking the bank. We ended looking through 30+ products before deciding to go with this microphone. My setup isn't anything fancy. I use the included adapter to connect the microphone to my cell phone (a Nexus 6) and use a recording app to record into WAV. I ran some tests with it and asked my friend what he thought. His consensus was that while it was't the best he's heard, it performs well above its price tier. To my less astute ears, it sounds quite good. It records (at least using the adapter) in dual mono, so you don't need to do that in post. The unit itself is quite solid with a metal body to house the condenser, battery compartment and on/off switch. The lavalier clip clams securely. I saw some reviews saying that the clip broke right away, I think that might just be a quality control issue as mine is sturdy and shows no signs of damage after repeated use. This can be a pro or a con depending on your setup, but the cable is extremely long. For me this a bit of a hinderance as my recording device is on me; if you needed to run it to a camera that length would make more sense. Additionally, the cables aren't replaceable, but given the price of the unit I don't think that's an issue. My only main complaint is there's no way to tell how much battery is left or even if there's any power at all when you go to turn it on (you have to check levels in your recorder to see if its powered) as there is no indicator lights.Video recorded using the camera's built-in mic: [...]Video recorded using this mic: [...]

A great bang-for-your-buck lapel mic that delivers crisp and professional sound.
First, the pros: Basically, for less than $30, in my humble opinion this is a fantastic value for anyone who wants to boost their sound. I’ve been using the AT3350 for just under two years now, and I am ecstatic with the product. I attach the discreet clip to my vest while preaching on Sunday mornings and the audio that I get is worthy enough for a podcast on iTunes. The mic picks up my voice clearly and the volume of my speech is consistently loud (I record using a Sony ICD PX 333). It is also sensitive enough to pick up the softer sounds from people sitting 5-6 feet behind me. (In fact, the mic picks up a cough or a sneeze 20 feet away). I’ve never had a problem with “p-popping” even when I raise my voice. The 3.5mm plug will insert into any device with that input and I have used it a few times on my iPhone and Nikon D3400 with great results.Next, the cons: My mic served me well when for no reason (after 1.5 years), it stopped recording my voice and instead recorded loud static whenever I spoke. Tinkering with the device didn’t solve the problem. I was happy with prior results, so I just bought another one. The other ‘con’ really isn’t a con at all just a matter of preference: the cable is very long (about 20 feet) so if you are speaking publicly and have an attached recording device on your person, there will be a bundle of wires somewhere.Last, a few pointers: (1) There is no way to know if the mic is off or on other than checking the switch on the battery module. Before you put your mic away be sure that the power is off less you drain your battery. (2) The mic can use two different types of batteries: 357/303 (Silver oxide) or the LR44 (alkaline). Basically, go with the 357/303 because they last longer and provide more continuous voltage (so your audio sounds don’t drop off). Yes, they are more pricey but as far as I can hear, they do yield a slight uptick in audio quality. (3) The windscreen falls off easily. Consider having a few extra handy.

Happy.
I never write reviews. After wiring it through my entire car and have it pop out in front if my rear plate the audio is amazing. Only a bit of high freq distortion when I get going from a dig and leave rubber from the tire squeal. Other then that first high price quality for a low price.Maybe 1 perk. Allow the slot to handle 3 or 4 battery so the record time is longer. Each batt lasts a few hours but if your going to a spontaneous cruise you might not have enough juice left.
