Review: Perfect for those older laptops without WiFi! - The TP-Link USB WiFi Adapter (TL-WN725N) is an absolute lifesaver for older laptops without built-in WiFi capability. This tiny yet powerful network adapter has truly transformed my older laptop into a modern and fully connected device, and I can't praise it enough. First and foremost, the ease of installation is a standout feature. It's a simple plug-and-play solution; just plug it into a USB port, install the necessary drivers (which are readily available on the TP-Link website), and you're ready to connect to WiFi networks. It's a hassle-free setup process that even those with limited technical expertise can handle. The compact design of this WiFi adapter is perfect for laptops, especially older ones with limited USB ports. It doesn't protrude from the USB port, so you can leave it plugged in without worrying about it getting in the way or being accidentally knocked off. The N150 wireless technology may not be the fastest, but it provides a reliable and stable connection for everyday internet use. Whether I'm browsing the web, streaming videos, or checking emails, this adapter performs admirably. It's a great solution for basic internet needs. Moreover, the TP-Link brand is known for its quality and reliability, and this WiFi adapter lives up to that reputation. I have peace of mind knowing that my connection is in good hands. The TP-Link USB WiFi Adapter (TL-WN725N) is a fantastic and cost-effective solution for older laptops lacking WiFi capabilities. Its easy installation, compact design, and reliable performance make it an invaluable accessory for those looking to breathe new life into their older laptops. Whether you're a student, professional, or simply someone who wants to stay connected, this WiFi adapter has got you covered. Highly recommended!
Review: Works well, almost invisible, and only risked $8.88 to try. Winner! - Providing wi-fi connection for under $9 gives this product an extra star -- I bought 2 immediately before trying it.. Shipping: Purchased at 2 am on Saturday morning, the one day shipping had it at the door by 6pm same night. STAR! Installation: After reading about 100 reviews it seemed that windows should be allowed to install the drivers it recommends.. sadly my windows Vista system couldn't find them (I know that win 7 and 8 are much better at plug and play than vista was). My old pc also couldn't handle the small disk so I cabled up and downloaded the drivers and installed from the TP-LINK site. THIS CAN BE TRICKY.. you need the EXACT firmware for one of many possible hardware versions or you get hosed. The instructions on the site say to look at the back of the device... if you can't find the version its probably 1... NOT TRUE. The version of the hardware is not on the device (it's surface area is less than a U.S. dime - no room on the device) .. The version is on the BOX. What shipped from desertcart was Ver. 2 ... since it was possible to install by reading carefully and a bit of guesswork.. I won't ding the product for the installation instructions. After installing the drivers from the site, I was asked to press the config button on my router - no password or network setup needed. This dialog is from network connections on windows, connect to the network, and click the router button. I imagine you could also connect the traditional way, typing in the information, but the device makes it much easier. After connecting, the internet was there. Tried it with video streaming and 3D games. Ran speedtest.net and got the same download and upload speeds as I did with cable -- about 24 Mbps down and 5+ Mbps upload. The ISP speed was the limiting factor, not the device speed. Range was good across a small apartment (I did not opt for the extended range.. just the tiny little normal range device) I'd give it 6.5 stars, but 5 stars would be my official rating for this. I'll be buying two more to have if I have to replace wi-fi on any other machines.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone know if this works with ubuntu 14.04?**
A: No! The "real" TP-WN725N will, but these (thought advertised as a WN725N) are "NOT" the WN725N, but are made by Archer, and they don't work with LINUX, Ubuntu or LINUX Mint. If you get a real TP-WN725N and plug it in, it will work right out of the box!!

**Q: What is this for? Why would one need it if their laptop already does wifi?**
A: I'm about 5 years behind this question and the comments :), but I can tell you that I have a 17.5" Acer 1TB laptop that is less than 18 months old, and I called to have my wireless modem replaced by Xfinity because I was only getting download speeds of about 100 - 112 when my service is supposed to deliver 250+ Mbps. But when we checked my cell phone, it showed 300 Mbps from the same router, and the tech said that my wireless card in this laptop cannot accomodate more than the 112 Mbps I've been getting! He said he's seen brand new high-end laptops with wireless cards that can't detect of connect with a 5G network like Xfinity's is. Maybe because of cost and the fact that probably a large % of people don't have service faster that 100 Mbps or so. So I haven't tried one yet, but most are in the $16 - $19 range. The top-rated (4,300 reviews averaging 4+ stars) is about $37, and that gets you 1,600 Mbps!! Hope this helps....

**Q: Is this a good option for the Raspberry Pi B+ model?**
A: If you want this to work with a raspberry pi, use this link. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=62371&sid=8b78a7e30c4190fad8241b2

**Q: Will this work with Windows 10?**
A: I have Windows 10 and received a version 1 (V1) adapter from Amazon. The TP-Link driver downloads do not offer a Windows 10 download for V1; however, there is a Windows 10 download for V2 and V3. I tried to install the V2 and V3 driver anyway, and although it installed, I only get 2-5Mbs down and about 4-5Mbs up. Same speeds for what Windows 10 auto detects and installs as Realtek RTL8188EU. I am in an adjacent room to my wireless router, through one wall and about 15 feet away. I have no idea why Amazon would still ship hardware that is not compatible with Windows 10. I’m only out a few bucks, so no big loss other than it being a hassle.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really Great Option for a Network Card
*by C***U on June 24, 2026*

Works like a champ out of the box. I bought this to add WiFi to my portable (R36) retro game console. It was a no-brainer to config. I just plugged it in and chose my WiFi network. It's been working perfectly. I love it.
