Cuisinart 2 in 1 Sandwich & Waffle Maker

Dangerous and not fit for purpose
I bought this for the waffle-making capacity rather than the sandwiches. Apart from never having succeeded in making edible waffles with it (and I tried several different recipes), I found it generally awkward and dangerous to use. These were main problems:(1) Too small — particularly the sandwich-making plates. The slots are much too small for any standard shop-bought sliced loaf. What is worse is that they are not deep enough, so that any filling spills out.(2) The plates come out of their moorings far too easily. This is particularly dangerous when the upper, very hot plate falls down while you are opening the handle to check on or remove the contents.(3) The cooking and browning are uneven.(4) The non-stick coating is thin and of poor quality.(5) The handle is uncomfortable to grip and gets too hot.(6) It is slow to reach working temperature.I gave up using it because the results were so poor. Not wanting to be beaten, I asked around for recommendations for a good-quality dedicated waffle maker. I got a robust machine by Krups. The difference is astonishing. If you want perfect results, stay away from this Cuisinart model and get the right tools for the job.

Good product, excellent guarantee from Cuisinart
Bought this for the fact that the plates are detachable for easy cleaning and you have the option of waffles or sandwich plates. Also the variable temperature is a big plus.Used regularly for about 18 months before the coating on both sets of plates started to crack and peel. Bear in mind, it had had a lot of use and had been in and out of the dishwasher. Was a little disappointed and almost threw it away before I remembered to check the guarantee with Cuisinart.Emailed them with photos and proof of purchase and explained the damage, to which I received a response straight away. Without quibble they offered to send replacements without the need to return the damaged plates. A few days later I had two new sets of plates from Cuisinart at no extra cost to myself (they even paid the postage). So it's a shame the damage happened, but the guarantee is well worth it. I didn't pay extra for it, it's the 5 year Cuisinart guarantee that comes with it if you buy direct from Amazon.

Sealed edged, toasted sandwiches just as they used to be ...
Ideal! Makes toasted sandwiches just as they used to be - moist pockets of loveliness spilt into two triangular sandwiches with sealed edges. Have tried it with all sorts of supermarket bread. All worked out fine. Maybe a little untidy around the edges where shaped bits of the bread escaped the plate mould but nothing to die in a ditch about.Additional plates for waffles were definitely worth having as part of a package "bundle". They will go down well with my grandchildren.Plates simply slip in and out with ease. Instructions say they can be dishwashed but I find hand washing is more effective.Package arrived on time and well protected. Am a happy purchaser. 🙂

Excellent waffles, care with cleaning needed, bread engineering enables good toasties too
Excellent waffle maker, with a little bread-engineering it’s also a very good toasted sandwich maker but that takes some effort.Waffles: Does leak a little if you overfill but not a problem. One thing to watch out for: the silver coating on body scratches instantly if you try and remove any spillage with metal knife or spatula (ie it looks like it’s metal coating but just paint) so it’s non-stick tools for all of it not just the irons.Tips from other reviews and first use:Allowed it to pre-heat for half an hour on high heat. You MUST give the waffle plates a REALLY good clean in lots of hot soapy water then rinsing and drying. Initial heating produced a foul smell but after cleaning not an issue so this step is vital!Lots of negative reviews here about it not working with bread for toasters - if you put three slices across on each layer it works fine but won’t work with just two. Helps to patch the joins with strips from a seventh slice of bread - so it does require a little work but it does then make great toasties.

Careful! Don't overfill when making waffles!
I upgraded to this model because it is practically identical to a Waring sandwich maker I have been using for years. This model, however, has the waffle plates and that's what I wanted to use. After cleaning all 4 plates, drying, and re-installing the waffle plates, I set to work. The unit took around 6 minutes to reach its hottest temperature (green light turns on when ready)I spooned in enough waffle batter to cover/fill the lower plate and closed the unit.15 seconds it hissed and some of the batter oozed out and down the front of the machine. Dabbing and carefully wiping with kitchen roll I cleaned as best I could.I left the waffles untouched in the unit for about 7 minutes. I was expecting a disaster but actually they were perfectly cooked, deep golden. The sandwich plates are almost identical to my old machine, and that one made great sandwiches (though I needed to be careful with the bread size, square loafs are best) and I'll try this new unit out soon.. To be fair, I expect it perform as well as my old machine.Very please so far, but I will use less batter next time.
