Well, when it arrived, I found that is was Malted Barley, which is not what I wanted. Still, I was planning on using it all for brewing beer, so rather than send it back, I bought a cheap thermometer, barley grist-mill, and a nylon sack, and learned how to brew gallon batches from grain instead of extracts. I've found the difference in beer quality that I get from all-grain rather than extracts is well worth the extra couple of steps. I hadn't planned on jumping into an all-grain process, but now that I have, I see no reason to go back. Also, if you like the idea of just making gallon batches, I've found that using a toaster-oven, I can toast up a half-pound of grain prior to grinding, to alter the color and flavor of my brews quite a bit, all from the same 50lb bag of grain. Of course, in the future, I'll probably be purchasing the next 50lb bag from a brewer or specialty store, as the price for this first bag was a bit more than I'd like to pay for grain.
