Its super light, holds up my phone, offers no TSA hassle, no stewardess grief, and it slides into my bag next to my notebook just fine. My primary usage for this while flying is with an iPhone in landscape mode, watching movies and connected to power, or in portrait mode with music playing (either of these is with bluetooth headphones). It supports both of these usage modes very well. The flap is nice because as it claims, you can build a tray-stand if your meal tray is down, or you can fold your tray up and (on some planes) tuck it behind. Out near the edge works better btw as the flex in the meal tray helps. For me, I have found the "magazine pocket" to be the best spot for me. Stick 1/2 of it down behind the magazines and bend the other half around like a tray and voila. If you have a first class seat this usually means you can use your meal tray and still watch your device. I have not tried it with an iPad so I cannot speak to that, and I should also point out that your phone is only resting on this. Unlike the Airhook or Joby products there is no 'grip' holding the device in place so it is possible that it could bounce off if you have a lot of turbulence or you don't leave a big enough lip when you bend it. I have not had issues with it getting ripped as others have reported but I have not used it in tight clearance spaces that much yet either.
