Wow, these give off the most amazing spark. Haven't used to light a fire yet but I don't think there will be a problem. Nice and light and compact, so will be very easy to carry. Looking forward to going on treks with the dog in the summer .

It go Real Sparky! A lot of sparks are emitted from this on a good strike and if directed into the correct tinder arrangement you will have a fire going in no time!

Fairly big, easy to hold, nice wood handle ,works well, comes in a velvet bag. Handy hint, if you struggle to light things, slowly scrape off some of the magnesium from the rod into a little pile on the tinder then scrape quickly as normal, it will light then.

Works as should with little effort.

I had one of these years ago with a thin plain steel striker and it was a lot easier to use. This one, even after getting through the black layer as per instructions is very hard to get a spark. I am trying to find my old steel striker to see if that makes a difference. The other annoying thing is the pole keeps falling out of the wooden handle! So not very well made.Edit: Found my old firestriker which works perfectly. Tried the striker on this pole and that works too. Then I noticed that my old striker has UP written on one side. Ie. It works one way up and not the other. The new striker does not have any directions on it, but as an experiment I tried it one way round and then the other. Turns out I was using the striker part upside down before! It works well the other way up. On one side the teeth feel rounded and on the other side the striking teeth are flat and sharp. You have to use it rounded side up. So I've added a couple more stars but it still loses points for the pole constantly falling out of the handle. I'll try wedging it in with paper or tape to make it more usable.

It’s really good gives off lots of sparks and lites combustible items easily. Also nice and thick rod so should last ages. Very pleased.
