Don't buy this.
I bought this for my husband's wheelchair, so I would not have to lift it into our SUV. I ordered the class C 2" hitch because my SUV is fitted with a receiver. It sounded great, and the video on the company website looked easy. So it came in two boxes. One for the carrier and one for the hitch. The carrier weighed 48 pounds. I put it together loosely to see how it all fit. It took me two hours to even put it together. Manual was only diagrams, no text. First, the arm which fits onto the hitch, doesn't fit right side up. I finally figured you have to turn the hitch upside down and then, it would fit. However, the screw holes did not match. One hole was bigger than the other. You could not use the bolts that were intended for it, but had to go to a thinner bolt. I got it all together. But with the difference in hole size, the whole thing slipped down 1/4 inch. In order to move the carrier up and down, you also had to lift it up, wiggle the bolt, and then it would go down. You had to do the same thing to lift it up. So you are lifting 35-40 pounds of steel when it is empty. Imagine adding 42 pounds of wheelchair to that and trying to lift that and wiggle the bolt at the same time. It just doesn't work.Secondly, The vertical arm that holds the wheelchair and secures it to the carrier is in a fixed position and moves up and down with the carrier. So, when you lower the platform to roll the wheelchair on, the arm is in the way. You have to pancake the wheelchair just to get it on the carrier, lift the whole contraption up so you can wiggle the bolt, hold it steady so you can lock it in place, and then fix the arm lock. Even if it all works the way it should, even if the holes are matched, you end up lifting 70 pounds each time. Just not a good design.Third, I put everything carefully back in the box. Called Hamar and asked for a return. This was all the same day it came .They eventually emailed me an RMA (return authorization) and charged me $48 for their shipping, charged me a $53 restocking feeand I had to pay to ship it back. Today, a week later, what do I find at my driveway, another one of these things. Can you believe that? Are they stupid or are they crooks?

It sounds to me like the previous reviewer did not properly install the carrier
I've owned & used a Tilt N Tote AL003 since 2008. I'm an amputee and very independent, but not able to lift my chair. It sounds to me like the previous reviewer did not properly install the carrier. It is very simple to load my wheelchair onto the carrier (I have a wide chair that weighs about 33 lbs). I have only 2 criticisms. The "release" handle is located in such a way that I cannot use it. I am not stable enough to bend down, pull the release, & stabilize the chair as it rolls off the carrier. I've solved that problem by leaning against my car and just pulling the chair off the carrier. The other problem is that the carrier rides too low to the ground. It hits bottom over bumps and gutters. I have to approach them at an angle. Also, you cannot back out of a steep driveway or it will bottom out and get stuck.

Great until it broke.
We had this. At first it was great. It's pretty hard to pull the nob. After a good year of use, it just stoped working at all. The nob was impossible to use. It was great while it worked. It's totally over priced. You can get a similar model by another company for 170.00
