I decided to replace the vintage lamp. After removing the vintage device, I found it easy to mount and wire it to the old box. It really took just a few minutes. I did not bother with a remote control or dimmer as it went into a laundry room. It's very bright, the quality is decent, and I assume that it will last many years. If not, the replacing the lamp won't be much more difficult than replacing a bulb in a globe. Anyone with a basic understanding and respect for electricity should be able to install this.
