One of My Best Purchases--Ever!
Okay, so I have a decent vacuum and use it twice per week. And, I do get up a huge amount of dog hair . . . and MY hair. So, I thought I was doing a good job. Then, there is the 30 minutes spent unraveling the all the hair from the roller bar on the vacuum. Yuck! So, I thought: I will try this carpet rake from OXO. I will use it first, and then vacuum. OMG! I ran this over a rug I had just vacuumed. I picked just a 3 ft. x 3 ft. area, and got up GOBS of "hidden" hair! Then I used the rake on all of my carpets. I got up a whole kitchen-sized bag of HAIR! Apparently, I have been living in a Hair Nest! Disgusting! Then I vacuumed thoroughly. The vacuum picked up plenty of dirt--but very, very little hair. And, NO hair on the beater bar to untangle! This rake requires very little energy to use--just drag it over the carpet (against the nap is best, imo). A bit of muscle is required to clean the head of the rake--so that part was a bit of an effort, but SO WORTH IT! I have no real complaints, except the little compartment that traps the hair. It is WAY too small, and you have to empty it by sticking your fingers in it from the top to push the hair down into the tray opening. Not a major undertaking at all, however. On the whole--so far as cleaning devices are concerned--this is really one of my best purchases--ever!

Best purchase ever! And still the best, after 1 1/2 years!
This is the best purchase yet! We have had our OXO furlifter for about a month, and we love it! Just a few minutes with the furlifter, a very simple operation, and the clumps of hair are gone! When we do have to run the vacuum, we are spared the frustrating work of cutting and pulling scads of the hair from the beater bar. And the furlifter cleans so well that we often have no need for the vacuum at all! The carpets are wonderfully clean, and completely hair-free. And we have 3 dogs, all long-haired, and 3 cats. Mostly, we pick up dog hair, and it seems that they shed in rotation, so that someone is always leaving tons of hair! We have a special pet vacuum, with an easy to clean beater bar, but it still involves unplugging, upending, removing the bar, cutting and pulling dusty hair that wants to fly everywhere, then reassembling. Compare that to a few pulls of the OXO handle, and a quick empty of the fur bin, and we're done! Love this furlifter!Update: we've had this furlifter rug cleaner for over a year and a half, and it is still one of our favorite purchases! We use it daily, and it still works perfectly! It is quick and easy to pull up all of the abandoned dog hair, even on the kitchen linoleum. Our floors can look like we are growing a new dog, and literally a few strokes of the furlifter and we are ready for company. Bless you, OXO, for developing such a wonderful, useful tool.

Pure genius!
This thing is pure genius and a necessity for all indoor pet owners. I have 1 cat and live in an apartment building with no sound insulation– AND I’m also a night owl– so, you can image that vacuuming in the wee hours is not an option. This “oversized lint roller” is a godsend. I often find myself “sweeping” more than I need to because of how satisfying and therapeutic it is to empty out piles of pet hair gathered from surfaces that I thought were clean to begin with. It will also pick up your own hair and dust bunnies, and it can sweep up the bigger (non hair) stuff into piles, if you do it right. Then you don’t have to sweep with a regular broom later, just sweep up the big stuff with a dustpan. It might sound silly, but the whole process also makes the air in my home feel fresher to breath.

Wow! Works exactly as I hoped!
This thing really works! We have a high-traffic rug in our laundry/mud room that collects dog hair like CRAZY. I hate vacuuming rugs - it actually scares me. Enter the fur lifter. It’s a little hard to figure out at first. The handle moves the fur lifter piece in and out of the collection box as you would expect. But the handle also turns and it took us a minute to figure out that turning the handle locks it in place with the fur lifter out.It works like a charm and is very quick and easy. We have a dog and 3 cats and an eight year old who loves lounging on the floor. I’ve even been using it to clean the carpet in areas and on the stairs where he likes to sit to try to reduce the fur on his clothes, lol.All of that said, what other reviewers mention about emptying the fur is true. You have to dig it out of the container with your hands. Depending on what your cleaning (mudroom carpet), the fur is pretty dirty, so it’s kind of gross. I can do the rug and an entire furry stairwell before emptying it. And honestly, that’s a small price to pay for how well this thing works.

Awesome, but won't replace vacuuming.
I bought this based on previous reviews and figured I would try it. I like it and was impressed. It is very effective. We have a dog who sheds a lot. The product works like a lint brush - the reds ones you are supposed to brush in a specific direction. While effective, it is only effective on a small area at a time. That is the only down side, but it is not that big a deal. Once I brushed it over the edge of my area rug three times, I had to clean it off by pulling up on the handle. (This is the awesome part that makes it better than a lint brush - the ease of cleaning the "lint brush".) It's not hard to use, but does have to be scraped off often. I emptied the collection area after several passes. It certainly can't replace vacuuming, but it can be a quick in between move or can be passed over high traffic areas to decrease vacuuming frequency.

Great
With little effort the carpet rake works great for area rugs. However, I think in order for it to pick up hair well, you have to apply some pressure. We have 2 dogs and 5 cats in my house and I run a roomba daily on 1 floor of our house. I also vacuum daily with a stick vac and weekly with a shark navigator and a Dyson. I like clean floors and rugs. No matter how often I vacuum there is always bits of hair left on our area rugs and carpet runners which drives me nuts. I was amazed after using this tool how much hair came off my runners. For the cost, this is worth the money and I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because only time will tell how long it lasts.

How to use this Furlifter ?
I received the item today but the box it was in was totally destroyed and being held together with tape. The Furlifter is intact but there are no instructions on how to use it. I'm baffled ! Is there any possibility of accessing an instruction booklet ?

ITEM ARRIVED USED
The package that arrived at the door was the size of a refridgerator. Once opened the item was obviously opened before and used. The handle was dirty and the brush itself was dirty. The product was obviously repackaged and returned then sold to me.The item itself was okay. It is a little awkward to use. Will not purchase again.
