So far so good
This was a replacement product for a previous model (under brand name Silavent). I replaced two old fans and the replacements are working perfectly. The old ones had been going for 18 years - if these two last half of that I will be very happy. Excellent value for money. I had read reviews that these fans were a little noisy but so far my ones are not - a distant non-intrusive hum is all I can hear.

Like for like replacement for the Steeple SF4T
I bought this to replace a broken Steeple SF4T extractor fan. It uses an identical plastic case so is an easy swap with the screw holes, cableways, etc. being the same. Unlike the Steeple you only have a 5/15/30 min delay setting (not infinitely variable). It doesn't come with a electrical connector block but I used the existing one with no issues. This unit seems fine, not too noisy and does the same job the Steeple one did. 4/5 starts because there are probably better ones out there but this fit the hole in the tiles and was an easy replacement.

Straight replacement for the Silavent model with the same product code.
Bought as a direct replacement for a silavent model with the same product code. Quick check whilst the old one was still in place showed that there was absoloutely no difference to the units except for the Domus sticker on the outside. Im no electrician, but it was easily installed. Isolated the fan from the power supply (Easy, as we have an isolator switch outside the bathroom). Just disconnected the three electrical wires from the old unit, four screws holding it in the ceiling, and just reversed the process and installed it. Straight snug fit into the hole. Turned the isolator switch back on and hey presto i now have a quieter fan. There are installation instructions which are adequate if needed, but if its a straight replacement you should not need them As usual fast next day delivery by Amazon at a very competitive price. Pointlessgoing out and wasting petrol trying to save a pound or so.

Quality Fan
Bought to replace same model that packed in after 5 years of continuous use. Easy to install for competent DIYer. Good quality and quiet fan. Timer function works well. Good extraction

Run-on timers odd
The unit works but the run-on timers are odd. The factory setting was for 15 minutes but the unit only ran-on for seven minutes. I tried removing the jumper completely, in which case the unit should have run-on for the default 20 minutes, but gave up waiting for it to stop after 40 minutes. The 30 minutes setting actually ran-on for 25 minutes which I settled for! I did not try the 5 minute setting.Had it not been for the fact that returning it would have left a hole in my bathroom and bear wires, I would have sent it back.

Design changed since 1999. Timer accuracy is a best guess
Fitted to replace a 1999 Silavent unit that failed. Size wise is exactly the same so all of the mounting holes line up perfectly. But! The internal configuration for the electrical connections has changed and that meant the existing tails were 75mm short so needed extending. Fine as long as you have the necessary wires and tools (fortunately I did). The timer is now a fixed set of time determined by the placement of a link over 4 pins, giving 5, 15 or 30 mins run in, or 20 if the link is removed. The factory default is the 15 minute one but on mine that period is actually just 7 minutes. That doesn’t exactly indicate good quality control or testing to ensure component tolerances deliver the desired performance. It doesn’t move a huge amount of air and is noisier than the one it replaced. Not badly so, but the product quality is definitely made down to a price rather than to meet a quality expectation. It’s OK and I would buy it again.

Good fan but slightly noisy, easy to fit and the timer setting is very easy to adjust.
This is the replacement for my broken not so old same product, after examining the control PCB on the failed ones, they had printed electronics to reduce cost and the power resistors failed the same way in all extractor fans within 2 months. They seem to have improved this by using proper electronic components namely the power resistor circuit that reduces the mains voltage to a lower level. They are a little noisy as they have no isolation for vibration etc. to the mounting point of the fan so when mounted on ceiling it can be heard clearly in other rooms. They are easy to fit, though I do not like the new connectors on the PCB which used to be wire tails to an external connector block that made wiring the Twin and Earth to it much easier. The fixed timer control pins are a good idea as you do not need to guess the time setting on the potentiometer anymore. However all said they do the job.

Silavent Timer Extraction Fan
This item was purchased as a direct replacement of the same product that has been in use for some time. What I liked about it was that the sizes and fixings were identical to the one it was replacing so installation was easy. The design of the electronic timer has been changed however so the electrical connection is slightly different which required a small adjustment to the input wiring, but this was not a problem. The design of the case is good in that there are no curves - it looks good installed with clean lines.Note: the motor bearings are sintered bronze (not ball bearings). It helps, therefore, if a small drop of thin oil is applied to the exposed spindle bearing, and then spinning the fan manually a few times, before installation. If, after a long period of use, the fan becomes noisy (i.e. starts to rattle slightly) this usually means a dry bearing. Apply a small amount of oil to the exposed spindle bearing, spin a few times to allow the oil to lubricate the spindle shaft and bearing and replace the fan after cleaning the fan blades to ensure balance. If this does not cure the problem it's probably too late, so replace the fan.
