I write this just after cheerfully spider-proofing my home with the spray for the second year in a row, and ordering another batch so that I'm ready for any surprise attacks. The spray does have a chemical smell, but it's not overpowering and it fades pretty quickly. Maybe do the spider-proofing just before going out so that it settles by the time you're home. They are a good price and do the job. I have to say these are a last resort as ideally I like to catch the spider in a glass and put it outside. But I do have a fear of them so sometimes if they are in awkward positions or I think I may lose them and never sleep again, lol, I have used this. It does kill them but you have to use quite a lot and they can take a while to die which I don't like. I keep the can on the side hoping to deter spiders that way, ha ha! But I also use it to spray in areas where they have been or around doors/windows where they may enter.
