I guess I'll start with the minor bad points I've had. Unfortunately the apple hanging toy has a defect where the fabric isn't stitched around the mirror and the singing birdy came unstitched and fell off of the ring and felt loop he was attached to, which considering my son is only 3 months and does nothing more than bat at them, I was quite disappointed by. I have taken photo's and am going to write to Skip Hop and see if they will replace them :) Other than that, I really love this playmat!!! It's so much nicer than any others I've seen, beautiful design, lovely colours and friendly faces on the animals. My son has a woodland themed bedroom and I always gravitate towards anything woodlandy so of course I went straight for this! It's nice and padded, not thin as many others are. The quality really is superior (shame about above mentioned which I'm sure is a rareity) and my son absolutely loves it! He was starting to show signs of boredom before I got this and I'm sure other parents' will agree it's quite hard to entertain a 3 month old to start with because they can't do much. He loves to lie on his back on this and talk to the animals, the tweeting bird he beams at when I press it! He also loves tummy time with the cushion provided. All the materials are really soft and silky, easy to clean up the little bits of milk he spits out. It's machine washable too, though I haven't had to yet. Once he's bigger I plan on taking the bars off to use it as a floor mat. You can take the toys off individually for your baby to hold or you can hang them from a carseat or pram. The animals are also detachable, which is a bonus and there is a small pillow included to help with tummy time which I liked as you don't get with many of the other gyms. Although my baby is still a bit young to interact with it fully, he is already enjoying lying on the mat looking at the animals. You hold down the bottom end for ages, it will either turn on once or it will flash it alternates, I hope this helps. **Q: Is the mat thick enough for baby to be comfortable on hard floors** A: It's not thick at all, and we have wooden flooring (no carpet etc). My baby doesn't mind to be honest, I try and put it on the rug or on top of another blanket, but my son isn't too fussed. I've used it on the garden on the patio and grass too and it's ok, but if your baby bangs his legs/feet a lot i would put a blanket down underneath. It's no thicker than a cheapy ten pound playmat. **Q: What age can this realistically be used until?** A: my daughter used it until the age of seven and a half, when she began to crawl everywhere. As soon as she began to have some mobility, she lost interest in gym. Would definately recommend and would buy it again. The canopy and jungle sounds gives a real immersive feel. The mat is soft and interesting. The whole item is colourful without being in your face bold. It comes with a lot of accessories and features relative to other gyms so feels extremely good value for money. The sloth makes jungle and white noise sounds for 10mins and stops, which is a helpful marker of time. The tummy time cushion really increases the versatillity of use.
