Liquid Latex makes very economical, strong and durable strip-off moulds for the casting of plasters, cements and waxes. Moulds are made by either dipping or by painting on layers of latex onto the original to build up to the required thickness. As Latex cures when it dries the thickness of the layers, the room temperature and the item being cast will have a bearing on the casting time. Special Effects latex is high quality containing up to 60.5% solids. This latex is also low ammonia however we recommend using in a well-ventilated room. A faster build-up of latex when painting can be achieved by using Latex thickener.

Made lovely moulds with this.
Bought this to make some candle moulds, It is great and I mixed it with the thickener and it definitely needed the thickener otherwise it would have been too runny. It smells strong and I would suggest you use a face mask. You need at least 10 coats and need to let them dry between each coat. There is no short cut with making moulds. If you don't wait for the layers to dry between coats you may as well not bother at all. I used a hairdryer to aid the process but even then I had to wait till the next day to continue and do extra coats. It is a good make and I would buy it again. It doesn't really go far and would be best to do a few things at once, I was making tiny molds roughly 10cm x 5cm and I used old plates to hold the item in. Before starting using this it would be a good idea to think through what you are going to make and plan it carefully. I know from making moulds before that if you don't use all the latex within a short period it will go hard and you will end up throwing it away and wasting money. Also inbetween layers you could use gauze to help stiffen the mold too and help it to hold its shape. Another useful comment would be to make sure you have a base of around 3cm that you paint around the item you are making a mould of so that when you have finished painting on the latex it will serve as a base and make it easy to peel off and allow the item to stand. If you get air bubbles you can blow them out with a straw (softly) or if the latex has started to dry you can use a pin, make sure the first layer you paint on (the layer closest to the item you are making a mould of) does not have any air bubbles or this will affect you item you are making a mould of.

latex review
the price is cheap and it works like latex should though if you suffer from asthma i would avoid this product like wild fire the ammonia in it stinks to high heaven and could give you a bad chest for weeks....there was no professional label just a sticker saying liquid latex 1 litre unlike what is shown in the product picture. be carefull

halloween fun
I bought this to use on halloween, i had a costume in mind, but it didnt work out. I had to come up with another idea last minute, using this latex i pulled it off. I created 3rd degree burns on the left side of my arm, face, back and partial stomach. I then used fake blood and abit of makeup to fill it in. When i went into town i got alot of attention amd free drinks all night, people wanted their picture with me and asked me how i did it. Wouldnt of been possibke without this latex. For me, it paid for itself. Thank you.

Worked perfect!
The latex was acting like latex and is really good! Latex isn't easy to work with and I won't be bragging this product up in the sky by saying this one was, but with the thickener and all, it was easier!
