Just do as the leaflet says, it works!
It took a while to arrive but after I got it I set both bins up in about 10 mins. I did use some ptfe tape on the taps' thread after reading some reviews about the leaking and that was all. I haven't had them for long time but all seems to work perfectly. There's no smell, no leaking, no flies. I can see the fermentation going on and I have some of the liquid (Great plant feed) The paddle/squashing thing is not strong enough so I'm using a potato masher to compress all waste in the bin. Bins are not very sturdy but the whole things works very well. I also would like to add that this kit is about half the price of other kits and some of them come with just one bin! We have reduced the amount of waste at home enormously. We're adding the fermented waste to our composter and it making a better compost now. So as I already said it's not a sturdily built kit but for the price it's wonderful. Just follow the instructions in the leaflet and you'll be fine!

Great product but awful taps!
These are very nice bokashi buckets, good airtight seal, a separate drain off section on the inside of the bucket, but the taps leak very easily, ive fixed it with some ptfe tape but you cant tighten the nut or the cheap rubber washer pops off.Other than that they work great, make sure the lid is on properly and drain these once or twice a week, you get some lovely cider smelling juices from these and its superb for feeding the garden with, far better than anything you can buy! just make sure you mix one or two tablespoons with water in your watering can and away you go.check to make sure the fungus is white and not green, if its green then too much air is getting in, if its white its ok. then after two weeks bury the food in the garden or in a planter and leave for two weeks before using it.

Bokashi bin twin packs
Great product at a very reasonable price. One of the taps was missing the bolt but a whole new tap with bolt was sent out to me immediately, along with a email response of apology for any inconvenience caused.I liked this twin set so much that i repeat ordered and now have 4 of these bokashi bins which are constantly being used. We do have quite a lot of kitchen waste peelings and what have you as we eat a lot of fruit and veg in our family and get through loads of tea bags too! The bokashi process is very simple, though if bokashi bran is not included, a separate purchase of bokashi bran will be required to get your system up and running, as this is the vital ingredient that enable the fermentation process to take place.Layers of waste food and peelings etc, are built up inside the bokashi bucket. I tend to start with a sprinkle of bokashi bran then add a layer of peelings etc, then cover with bokashi bran, then another layer of peelings etc. When a bin has been filled to the brim, it is left to ferment (unopened) for a full two weeks, though it can be left longer, with no ill effects. The fluid from the fruits and veggies and other foods in the bin, build up, so every few days it is helpful to drain off the fluid which has collected inside the bottom of the bin, this is done by a simple turn of the knob on the tap. Be sure to do this either outside, over the sink or hold a container beneath the tap to collect the fluid. The fluid that comes out can be used as a fertilser, if you dilute it, or just do what i do and let it drain into the kitchen sink and go down the plug hole as the bacteria in it keep the plug hole from getting stinky.Do not forget to turn the knob of the tap to close it once it has been opened and the fluid drained!

Great product, makes food waste less attractive to rodents
We started this method of composting as we found evidence of rats in our compost heap, even though we never added meat or processed foods. In the year since we started with this bokashi system we no longer have signs of rats in the compost heap despite the fact that the bokashi contains meat & processed food scraps. This system is a good place to start. We have 3 buckets that we use in rotation so that fermentation really gets going before it is added to our compost heap. These 3 buckets are just about enough to deal with our family of 4s compostable waste. We use the liquid that comes off undiluted to de-stink our drains, we also spray it neat onto weeds in our paving. It is not as efficient as weed killer, but it is in not harmful to the wider environment, diluted it makes a great fertiliser. Get the dilution correct though otherwise you will kill your prized plants!

Don't bother - brakes and leaks
Was really happy when these arrived as I was so keen to get recycling my waste. I'm devastated to find these leak and they are rendered useless. No one has responded to my complaints and the product is poor quality.

A better Bin.
Very pleased with these so far because almost all food waste can be put in these bins I can fill them quicker then the standard type kitchen compost bins as I live alone the normal bin can become unpleasant before I'd produced enough waste to go to the garden compost heap, the bokashi bins are far more pleasant to use. The Bokashi system is a totally different method requires buying or making the bran (this dose seem to go a long way). I would recommend two bins so one is fermenting while the other being filled, after fermenting I opted for a second larger bin in the garden for stage two before transferring to the compost heap. This is because this system allows meats to be added... so I don't want to risk animals digging hence the second larger bin sunk into the ground when filled and give time to finish it will be added to my compost heap.Do research there is lot of info on-line this method "pickles" the waste once finished it can be added to a compost heap or dug straight into the garden the acidly is neutralized in the soil and dose not change the 'ph' this I will have to check. The drain tap is a good tap but dose not stand being done up properly tight... I'd recommend a little sealant to stop drips.
