The Butler DIDN'T Do It
This is really not a great device and very difficult to use. I bought it to use on my Synology NAS. The reason you need to buy the software is because Synology don't support TVButler themselves. So if you're looking to use the integrated VideoStation (or even TVheadend) you're out of luck and you'll have to pay for a license for DVBLogic's software (you can buy this tuner only package and get a free trial before you commit). This is software that looks like it was designed by a colourblind designer in PowerPoint using his or her non-dominant hand.I bought this as part of my cable-cutting masterplan. I was hoping to use this with Plex (as it's a listed device), but that didn't work at all. When I say this is difficult to use, I'm saying it as someone who works as a software engineer. This is horrible software. If you're looking for a device that does what TVButler says it does, spend a bit more and get something like the HDHomeRun. I haven't used it myself, but it cannot possibly be worse than this.

Reliable device for a NAS device (tested on Synology DS-214se - works fine)
I wanted a DVB-T stick for my Synology NAS. Synology recommends only a few compatible models on their website. I did try Hauppage NOVA-T. Very bad choice!!! 3 days of suffering then had to return it. Then I decided to buy this device and I am very happy, thinking about buying the second to record 2 shows at once.It supports HD channels (MPEG-2 + MPEG-4), everything runs smoothly with DVB-Link software (can be bought separately or as a bundle with this device). If you are looking for a NAS disk tuner, this one seems the right choice!

Good unit but you probably need the software too.
This is a lovely pice of kit with good software that makes watching TV on my laptop and recording and replaying TV shows on my NAS a doddle. I only give it 4 stars because they don't make it clear that , although the NAS server software is free, you must have the 50 Euro connector software to be able to communicate with the dongle, so I had to go and buy that separately and pay slightly more than I would if I'd bought this. Registering the downloaded software licence proved a nightmare too, rescued by DVB's good support. again it would have been easier with the software in the box that I think comes with a key so don't buy this unless you want a second tuner or you are using software other than DVBs. Despite the high price of the stick+software I'd still recommend it. The tuner is sensitive and gives as many channels as my TV's tuner and the software is so intutive and stable that I only use my old DVD recorder when I need two recordings at once now. One other thing worth mentioning is the nice big socket at the back and how much better that is than sticks with an "adapter" that waggles, wears and loosens after a while.

Two Stars
Unfortunately, this is not supported by FreeNAS/Linux and I had to return it.

Problems with MacOS Mojave
Found that it stopped working when I upgraded my Mac to Mojave. Support tried hard to resolve, but no success.

Works well for me
This is the second tuner that I have purchased and am pleased with the performance. To add some context, I have set up my ASUSTOR NAS with the DVBLogic software so I can stream around my home and save recordings on the NAS. I also have a TCTV292e tuner on the system, however the benefit of using the DVB Butler is that when ASUSTOR update their firmware the drivers for the PCTV also need to be updated by DVBLogic which can take a little time, whereas the DVB Butler is unaffected. So for me it works well.

Avoid this product and DVBlogic Software.
Poor product, very buggy and doesn't work half the time. Software is awful too. Would not recommend this to anyone. Returned for a refund.
